a. pay attention to meaning, filter out noise b. put your head down and work c. take advantage of gold rush moments/sectors To navigate implies you won't be able to just walk forward to the goal. Like a good running back, you may need to stop, turn, duck, dodge, push, accelerate and more, eyes always on the goal posts.

"This is the decision I woke up with this morning" 💯 It's time to get back to engineering with great teams again. Three years ago, I left Google to teach and to coach during a time when many were getting into software engineering with big dreams—but little reliable leadership. I've taken the stage, written articles, taught students, built curriculum, and coached many all over the US and the world while still managing to build an AI-enabled interview prep tool called Mockrr. But I miss building things with great teams...solving hard problems, shipping meaningful products, and learning alongside fantastic engineers. And as AI reshapes entire industries, I'm eager to get back in the game. If you’re looking for a Staff or Principal Engineer who can wrangle complexity, bring clarity to ambiguity, and elevate teams to do their best work—let's talk.

Random things I've said this year that can help someone who acknowledges where they are rn. 1. You may need to go dark, no socials, no highlight reels, to emerge a different person later 2. Over-reliance on socials/screen time is probably killing your success 3. Easy self-review of your resume: "Does the professional work experience detail how I left that company better than I found it" 4. Easy self-review of your candidacy strength for a role: What do I offer that others don't and what proof do I have of that statement 5. A career strategy is not engaging in a random series of advice activity that does not account for your strengths/weaknesses/interests/market/etc 6. Despite chatter to the contrary, hard technical skills are still the most important in an IC technical role 7. A high quality computer science education is potentially more valuable now than ever before. It should be tied to a level of business acumen as well 8. Some of us are just listening to the wrong people but we like them so it's hard to acknowlege the truth right in your face

With AI for coding, the most important skills will be: - Reading and reviewing code - Debugging - Turning customer needs into a great product - And perhaps boringly, solid communication skills A less important skill will be simply writing code. It won't be about writing as many lines of code as you can. It'll be about how much value you can deliver with your work.

I am a very petty person. Not petty in the sense that I want to be cruel. Petty in the sense that if someone tells me that I do not have the ability to do something that I will literally move the earth to do it. Just so I can KNOW in my mind that I made them eat their words.

I’ve sat in rooms, had fruitful business meetings and contracts given to me that were setup by juniors and entry level analysts that are now managers and branch chiefs I’ve helped at some point on the job. Stop treating your juniors like crap, you may need them one day.
