While I was there I was just thinking to myself that the annual operational cost of the public portion of the museum is apparently less than the budget for fucking Fred: The Movie.

I can’t attend today’s hearing, but I stand with my Council colleagues and everyone fighting to save the Academy of Natural Sciences. The Academy is an invaluable asset, and it’s outrageous that Drexel University closed it so suddenly. As the Councilmember for Drexel’s main campus, I’m holding the university accountable and demanding that it live up to its responsibility to find a long-term solution that keeps the Academy open.

Today we’re getting answers about the future of the Academy of Natural Sciences.
I will introduce a resolution this week to create a taskforce focused on keeping the museum open, supporting science education and protecting its role in our community.
More to come!

Update to this story: per @thephillyvoice the City-selected lead for the Academy of Natural Sciences “transition” no-showed for a City Council hearing today because Drexel and the city are cowards.

The hearings today on drexel's closure of the academy of natural sciences went very well today. In short, i would say that drexel has made themselves look pretty bad.

On message boards, mods would delete threads if you’re just talking about the same annoying topic over and over again. Social media does not have this and that’s why we are in hell

A new article from Philadelphia magazine highlights further missteps taken by academy higher ups. At one point, they wanted to CAN DINO HALL and replace it with a FANCY GATHERING SPACE????

The Philly City Council hearing on Drexel’s sudden and increasingly inexplicable closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences is this coming Monday 10/26 from 2-5pm at City Hall! Time for real answers. Time to #SaveTheAcademy. The dinos can’t go, so we need to show up for them! 1/2

Since this post:
-Flyers had the worst start in franchise history with 9 straight losses
-Ariel Hukporti tore his Achilles, out for the season
-Jalen Hurts is full of blood clots and the team nearly killed him by flying him overseas
-Eagles still haven't won a game since

I’m just gonna say - back when the Academy of Natural Sciences museum was open and cheering for the Eagles, we were winning games - even the Super Bowl. How many games have the Eagles won since Drexel shut down the Academy on September 27th? #drexelcurse #savethemuseum

I think there's a general perception that since keeping warming to 1.5C is basically impossible then that level of warming must not be that bad, and the people warning of its dangers are exaggerating. Not the case!
A new study has examined 20,736 scientific publications about climate tipping points. Several of those are estimated to be crossed around 1.5 degrees warming, i.e. any time soon: permafrost thaw, Greenland Ice Sheet, North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre.
