Republicans don't want you to know that scrapping the cap on Social Security payroll tax (which lets the rich get away with underpaying) could essentially eliminate its solvency gap.
They'd rather have a “fiscal commission” to quietly gut Social Security.
Because of course.

And please share this. Regardless what anyone thinks, nobody will exterminate anybody. When this is all over, be it in 20, 50, or 100 years, there will be Jews and Palestinians - our children - living in the Holy Land. May it be in peace, love & equality. xitter.gq/iyad_elbaghdadi/status…

We partnered with Mastercard to look at how pedestrianizing 11 blocks of 5th Avenue last holiday season impacted the local economy. Guess what? It drove an estimated $3M in additional spending with merchants seeing a 6.6% increase in sales. patch.com/new-york/midtown-n…

This is just an appallingly gruesome tragedy, repeated over and over again on Ocean Parkway because our elected leaders are scared to act and listen to the wrong people who scream the loudest. Sammy's Law doesn't even scratch the surface here.
Last night a 76-year-old was struck by a speeding driver on Ocean Pkwy, severing both his legs. He bled out on the street.
I don't know if lowering the speed limit would've prevented his death. But I do know NYC needs the ability to try. Sammy's Law now. nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc…

..is no different from suggesting non-smokers must buy and wear gas-masks as a solution to passive smoking. In both cases, these are solutions that technically ‘work’, but they place all the responsibility for action – and a financial burden – on the non-consenting injured party"

There are more people biking and walking during the storm in the Netherlands, than there are in other places in the world during perfect conditions.
So no… It’s not about the weather, it’s about the infrastructure.

It’s interesting how ‘private cars’ are called ‘private’ when all their non-monetary and external costs are paid by the public.

Designing a dense cycling network is not easy but it is most definitely possible.

My transportation *is* recreation. That’s the joy of biking for me - the drudgery of commuting, errands, and kid-schlepping turned into playful exercise!

I will say this until I cannot physically say it anymore: The safest communities are the ones that have the most social resources - education, housing, and healthcare. Not the ones that are over-policed.

“We see how people are prioritized just because they’re older and have more money to drive cars.” Revealing, inspiring example of youth-driven campaigning. Expect to see more of this if Governments continue to invest in major roadbuilding schemes. bloomberg.com/news/features/…?

I am so done with GDP as the touted measure of economic wellbeing. I now want to see quarterly data on food security, on poverty, on schooling, on early marriages, on health services. We can and we MUST measure these things too. With the same dedication & frequency as GDP.

A truly progressive city would recognize the tremendous value of 80k BIPOC #bikenyc delivery workers, and look for ways to fully integrate them into the streetscape design language.
Ending the systemic persecution of this group is a nice start but isn’t even close to enough. – at Brooklyn, NY

Dear @NYCMayor, This morning, my kids are I were almost run over walking to school when a taxi ran a red light to pick up a fare. He missed us by a few inches. As I yelled at the driver, the passenger got in the cab and looked to me with a shrug and said, “That’s New York.”
