Always respect the opinions of players (former & current), just disagree with the logic here. Why? Give me numbers!
Daulton Varsho:
Nearly 2,500 career plate apps
1,634 batted balls
342 line drives
58 to the opposite field
4 hit to 3rd base
3 of 4 were jam shots (only 1 true lineout!)
In other words, if the logic is protect against getting doubled up, then they were protecting against something that had-at best-a 0.1% chance of happening.
Conversely, Varsho has hit 412 groundballs to 1B/2B/SS (type of play where good primary & secondary leads could have won them a World Series).
1 vs 412!!!
If it were a guy like Kirk, Guerrero, Clement, Bichette, etc... up at the plate (ie a RHB who hits a lot of line drives), totally get the logic. But you lose me when Varsho up at the plate.
Back to the fort.
He did exactly right here. The #1 rule with bases loaded and less than 2 outs is you cannot get doubled up on a line drive to 3rd baseman. So your lead is as far as the 3rd baseman is from the bag. He did this perfect.

I think there are a lot of people on Toronto’s very powerful political centre/right who are going to wake up tomorrow wondering why they went all in on that guy of all the guys.

Just wanted to say thanks for both the support, and the patience with the self-promotion. "The Code of the West" is number one in sales (in sports) on Amazon, and number four across all books in the country according to the Globe & Mail. Officially get the "bestseller" tag 👍

Thanks Ben. Like you I'm really into civic matters.
Spend an ER shift with me. Or MSF mission with me in Congo. Afterwards, your mind goes upstream.
To be factual, ER docs are a vocal bunch. We see the best and the worst of everything. We have a lot to say with good reason.
As for the machine, yup. I got one. Great kid, amazing wife. I have a fire in me (like you) for a better city, province, nation and world.
So yes I do radio, newspaper, Twitter and full time ER. I walk the dog a lot, listening to medical CME and commentators. At the gym I listen to medicine only.
I had wicked training, wicked teachers and always fire in the maw.
You and I disagree on policy up and down but we're engaged in something more than our own family or our own tribe.
Let's disagree Ben and maybe agree time to time - and desire a better nation.
I know that's what your family stands by and that's why I respect your family's contribution to the nation.
That's not being polite, that's being honest. @BenMulroney

Elite storytelling. More of this from KG!!!
Kevin Garnett tells Tony Allen and Zach Randolph that a single open run he had with a group of NBA players including Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen made him realize he wasn't going to college and would instead enter the NBA straight from high school. He noted that making just one bucket during that run changed everything for him.

This team’s strength comes from its team defence. Acquiring Sabonis would negatively impact that in a huge way. This is a move that sounds way better in fantasy sports than reality.

John Tory on Brad’s water scheme:
“you do lose a degree of control when you send it off to one of these even publicly owned corporations…if it ain't broke don't fix it. I mean you know - if the water turns on, it’s clean, it's safe, it's among the best in North America."

Raptors allowed 85.9 pts per 100 possessions last night.
That would have ranked 2nd among their regular season games last year & is a top 5 mark for the Raptors going back 5 seasons.
This defence is going to be smothering.
Who is the best "2nd best player on their team" in the NBA this season?

Just wanted to provide a visual example at how incredible that flyout was.

I've worked with both Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford. Mayor Chow acts. Councillor Bradford is mostly talk.
How can we expect someone to serve our city well when they've failed to serve their own ward?

Today in dystopia, the military-industrial complex is reassuring investors that the wars will indeed be endless.
Patently absurd. One example why:
Raps took Cavs to brink in last year's playoffs.
They return their top 5 in minutes played from that series, lose Ingram/Mamu, add KAWHI/Kyle Anderson.
Cavs lose Strus, Wade, Schroeder from that series, add Peyton Watson.
ESPN’s Bobby Mark says the Raptors are not contenders
“I’m not putting Toronto there. I just can’t. The biggest question for me— it’s not their starting-five. It’s whether they have enough shooting off the bench and if there’s enough spacing on the floor.”
