Here is the link where I made the case last week that beneath the surface the October 6, 2026 record close in the S&P 500 looks more like the March 2000 top than any other record high since 1980.

This is fake news.
Michael Burry just laid out a long case for $META arguing that hyperscaler AI spending could lift its implied AI-services margins by ~10%.
Pretty interesting coming from someone who's been so critical of AI spending boom and is now pointing to where those investments could actually pay off.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Michael Burry has not laid out a long case for $META or suggested hyperscaler AI spending will pay off. His analyses warn of risks from trillions in off-balance-sheet commitments by hyperscalers including Meta plus accounting that may overstate earnings.

Replying to @chamath
Pretty much.
As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.
SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.
That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

$ABR gradually, then suddenly.
@AIMhonesty
I grew up in the credit side of the industry
I no longer have my Bloomberg terminal, but I still track OAS for every liquid preferred name out there on my home rolled codebase because RV strategies are fun
$ABR series D is going parabolic on its OAS
(So are E and F)

Another CLO Equity CEF $CCIF announced a partial redemption of their preferred $CCID. Over the last year CCIF has experienced the worst drop in the NAV of around 49%.
That has pushed up its leverage to a level where the mandatory redemption provision is going to kick in eventually. We are not there yet with asset coverage around 240%, however leverage is north of 40% which is on the high side for CEFs.
CCID has rarely traded at an attractive yield and that remains the case. There are more attractive options with much higher yields such as $OXLC baby bonds like $OXLCI at a yield of over 9%.

Uh oh… Dr Doom is Bullish…
Keep in mind S&P is < 1% off All Time Highs
Nouriel Roubini - "Dr. Doom," who warned of the 2008 crisis two years early - says the capex boom has lifted US potential growth from 2% to "closer to 3%" - and an AI bubble is "not my view"
"I think it's a secular increase in capex and potential growth, but some corrections could occur"
Even Bloomberg's host said it on air: "I'm still getting used to the more optimistic Nouriel Roubini"
Why he's optimistic now:
> Why Yields Are Rising (1:12):
- Not inflation, not mainly debt fears - "the biggest driver of the rise in real yield is the boom in capex, AI and technology of the future.
> More Jobs, For Now (3:16):
- AI displacement is "a medium or long-term kind of concern." In the short run, "this capex boom implies more demand for labor"
> What Still Worries Dr. Doom (3:50):
- A Strait of Hormuz "still half open, half closed," fears of a post-midterm strike on Iran, and debt nobody consolidates. But "it's not my baseline"
> One Of A Dozen (4:59):
- "People are obsessed about AI" - but robotics, semis, biotech, defense, space, quantum and fusion are each "subject to improvements and productivity increases because of AI."
> The AGI Clock (5:50):
- "Some people say that we could get to... AGI in the next two, three years." The drag on growth so far, he says, came from tariffs and the oil shock - not from AI
Back in 2010 he said he's no permabear - when the facts change, so will his view...
In my scorecard of "AI Crash Calls", he's the only one who actually did it ↓
