Today marks the five-year anniversary of the Taliban banning women and girls from Afghanistan from secondary education.
Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls and women are formally banned from secondary and higher education. Each year that this ban remains in place, women and girls from Afghanistan continue to lose their fundamental right to schooling opportunities. It's time for the international community to call this treatment what it is: gender apartheid.

Four years ago today, Mahsa Jina Amini was killed for being a woman, igniting the Woman, Life, Freedom protests, which were met with brutal repression. Those responsible haven't been held accountable. It’s time to stand with the women and girls fighting for justice in Iran.
