On 8 October 2026, I had the pleasure of launching The Law & Practice of Dispute Avoidance & Adjudication Boards, co-authored with Prof. Kenneth Wyne Mutuma, at the @CIArb conference in Diani, Kenya. This publication reflects our shared conviction that African construction disputes require African solutions, grounded in international best practice. Volume 1 examines the foundations, legal principles and procedures governing Dispute Avoidance and Adjudication Boards (DAABs), combining legal analysis with practical guidance for construction professionals, lawyers, adjudicators and arbitrators.

LAWYER TO LAWYER When you start making money from law practice, TRAVEL. Don’t wait till when you have enough. It doesn’t have to be Europe, America or some exotic destination. Start with neighbouring countries if necessary. Just go beyond the environment that formed you. There is a level of peak intelligence you will never attain if you don’t travel, as no law school, no textbook and no courtroom experience can give you. It only comes from exposure. Education gives you knowledge, Exposure gives you context. You have probably met some people with little or no education who are remarkably wealthy and successful. Yet, in certain conversations, you immediately recognise the difference education makes with your own reasoning and approach, not because they lack intelligence, but because education expands the range of ideas, perspectives and frameworks available to you. Travel does the same thing. It is education through exposure and when you’re educated but lack exposure, there are certain conversations or arguments you will make and people will immediately recognise you lack exposure. This is very bad for a lawyer. For a lawyer, the returns are not just personal, they are professional. Exposure sharpens how you read people, how you construct arguments, it sharpens your judgment on how you anticipate outcomes, broadens your perspective and eventually influences how you advise clients, negotiate fees and even structure transactions. It makes you a more complete thinker and a more formidable practitioner. You begin to understand that what your environment taught you was “normal” may simply be just one way of doing things. Travel is not merely recreation. It should not be optional for a lawyer. It is not simply a reward for success. It is a requirement for the kind of excellence that makes success sustainable. It gives you a competitive advantage.

In early 1986, Bo Jackson was the best athlete in America, and everyone knew it. He'd just won the Heisman Trophy. He was hitting over .400 for Auburn's baseball team. NFL scouts were already calling him a generational talent. So when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, holding the No. 1 pick in that year's draft, wanted to bring him in for a visit, owner Hugh Culverhouse sent his private jet and promised Jackson the trip wouldn't cost him anything. It cost him everything. The NCAA ruled the flight an improper benefit. Jackson's college baseball career was over before he ever agreed to play a single down for Tampa Bay. He believed it wasn't a mistake he believed it was a setup, a way to force him onto the football field by taking baseball away from him. So when the Buccaneers drafted him first overall anyway, he told them plainly: don't bother. They offered him $7.6 million over five years the richest rookie contract in NFL history at the time. He turned it down and signed a minor league baseball contract worth a fraction of that, choosing bus rides and small crowds over a team that had lied to him. People called it irrational. Jackson didn't see it that way. Some things, he believed, mattered more than money. A year and a half later, on his 25th birthday, he stepped onto the field for the Los Angeles Raiders a team that let him play both sports against a Seattle linebacker who'd publicly promised to shut him down. Jackson took a handoff, stiff-armed a defender to the turf, and outran the entire Seattle defense for a 91-yard touchdown that carried him straight into the stadium tunnel. He finished the night with 221 rushing yards, a record that still stands today. Then baseball season came, and he did it all over again playing outfield and hitting a 448-foot home run in the same All-Star Game, on his way to being named MVP. To this day, Bo Jackson remains the only athlete in American professional sports history named an All-Star in two major leagues. His career ended earlier than anyone wanted, cut short by injury in 1991. But the story people still tell isn't really about the speed or the records. It's about the year he refused to let anyone buy back his integrity and turned out to be right. -Fabulous Lovers Of Weird Everything

*A HEARTFELT THANK YOU* I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who stood by me and my family during the last days of my beloved mother, Mama Mary Magdalene Eteu, as she battled cancer and other medical conditions that ultimately took her life. To each and every one of you who prayed for us, supported us, encouraged us, visited us, reached out to us, or stood with us in any way when tragedy struck, thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God reward you abundantly, and may His grace continue to bless you in every facet of your lives. My mother died a proud and happy woman because of the love, kindness, and support shown by the people in the lives of her children. Knowing that she was surrounded by such a strong community of family, friends, and well-wishers gave her—and all of us—great comfort during her final days. I would also like to extend my special appreciation to the CDF and Chairman of PLU, General @mkainerugaba for commiserating with my family during this difficult time. In the same spirit, I thank my entire PLU family, from all corners of the world—here in Uganda and across the diaspora—and especially those who braved the roads and traveled all the way to Kalaki to give Mama her final send-off. My sincere gratitude also goes to the Secretary General @TwallaFadil2 and the entire Central Committee @rutashararaS @BalaamBarugahar @HenryBasaliza1 et al, the tremendous support extended to my family and for helping us give Mama the dignified farewell she deserved. To everyone who reached out to me directly—through phone calls, text messages, social media, personal visits, prayers, and words of encouragement—please know that every single gesture meant more to me than words can express. During one of the most painful periods of my life, you reminded me that I was not alone. Your kindness carried me and my family through moments when we had very little strength left. You shall never be forgotten. May God bless each and every one of you, your families, and everything you put your hands to. May He return to you many times over the love and kindness you showed my family. May the soul of Mama Mary Magdalene Eteu rest in eternal peace. God bless you all. 🙏🏿 Coach Gad Eteu PO 054 PLU -USA National Vice Chairman

A good decision here. The Court found that a third party who acknowledges, prior to signing an agreement, that there are other co-beneficiaries to an estate cannot rely on an oral or implied authorisation from some beneficiaries to bind the absent ones. In the absence of a power of attorney or written authority, the agreement must be signed by all parties or returned for their signatures before the transaction is finalised. When they say Quincy Jones is Mr. Masterpiece they mean his body of work like this song, The Secret Garden aka Sweet Seduction Suite. He brought Al B Sure, James Ingram, Barry White and Ed De Barge to do the needful. What a great eulogy. Well thought out and crafted meticulously for a great giant indeed. Good job. RIP to my favorite namesake George. A man I truly admired and respected from afar. I remember when I was in campus, it was amazing seeing his Mercedes Benz drive by with his name on the plates. Those days names on plates had just become a thing. He will be missed. Cc @EOthini
