How remarkable is this?
For centuries, Europe sent missionaries across Africa to spread Catholicism. Now the continent that once received those missionaries is becoming one of the Church's most important centers.
The Vatican's latest figures put Africa at 288.3 million Catholics, just ahead of Europe's 287.2 million.
But the growth is where it gets really interesting.
Africa added 7.6 million Catholics in a single year. Europe added fewer than a million.
And Africa is now the only continent where both the number of seminarians preparing for the priesthood and religious sisters are increasing.
There's something quite extraordinary about that, historically.
The Catholic Church spent centuries expanding outward from Europe. Now its future is increasingly being shaped in Africa.

Dear Mum , Hon Minister @Hon_Anifa , mine is not defending an ethical behavior but just to explain something others are not telling you - “THE POCKETING DR,”leave alone saying I know Dr Candia Robert who was one year behind me. I was his President at Medical School. A disciplined and always smiling Dr. The clinical coat has very many uses to a clinician. I won’t enumerate them but one of them , is what I have witnessed over the years: when a Dr is exhausted, instead of leaning against a wall or sitting down , many times he /she chooses to rest his / her hands in the lower coat pockets to find balance and rest on his / her feet, can you imagine. But also , to keep his hands from hanging everywhere and falling in contact with the surfaces on the ward , to keep them fairly clean before touching to examine another client, disinfect and keep again. It develops into a habit among health workers who work for long hrs or teaching, common among senior health workers.
Please , please, let me plead for Dr Chadia, he is that nice son of yours - try and find out. Again , sometimes health workers use those white pockets to hide their glove - powdered hands - not dirty as such.
I bet you , you will meet many , including very senior Drs pocketing.
I could be wrong, I am sorry, that’s just my humble but orthodox view.
