Oop- took a little science Twitter break to focus on some writing and missed my @Sharks4Kids feature!
If you know some kids (or very cool adults) who want free shark education resources, make sure to check them out 🦈💙
Meet Biologist Dr. Lauren Eve Simonitis
@OceanExplauren
Lauren has dual bachelors of science degrees in marine science and biology. Also a Ph.D. from Texas A&M. She focuses both on how animals sense their environment and how they interact with the senses of other animals.

In hopes of reducing exposure, we ask that all Galveston faculty & staff work from home for the first week of January (Jan. 3-7), except for personnel whose duties are essential to being performed onsite. Please speak with your supervisor if you’re unsure how this affects you.

Thomas Lovejoy was a leading conservation biologist who worked to preserve the Amazon rain forest. He also invented the concept of debt-for-nature swaps, which allowed developing countries to have some foreign debt traded for investments in conservation. nyti.ms/3FDMYRh

On this day in 1973, the Endangered Species Act was signed into law. Over the past 48 years, it has helped preserve plants and wildlife for future generations.
From the bald eagle to the American alligator, we are thankful for the species this law has helped recover and save.

Early career scientists, don't feel the need to attend SICB or any other meeting. There is no "normal" right now and your future colleagues or mentors will totally understand if you don't attend a meeting in person. Do what is best for you, your family and your community.

Today we rescued a hook & line turtle, transported it to our @houstonzoo partners in Galveston, drove it to Houston for rads & then back to our hospital all in ½ day. This turtle will be swimming in local waters again. Thx to a great team.
