Hon. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 @DrAyumeCharles and @DianaAtwine Kindly make impromptu visits to Mulago National Referral Hospital and reassess the conduct, professionalism and commitment of some of the doctors. My concern is based on two disturbing experiences involving patients who urgently needed medical attention. Two months ago, a friend collapsed in town and was rushed to Mulago. A CT scan was conducted, and the results showed a blood clot. When I pleaded with the doctor to assist and expedite the process, she became hostile and started asking about my tribe and where the patient came from. I humbly explained that those details could be provided, but the immediate priority was saving the patient’s life. Her response was arrogant and deeply disturbing. She told me that if I did not want to answer her questions, I should go and perform the surgery myself. At the Emergency Unit, there appeared to be deliberate delays and unnecessary obstacles, yet every second counted for this young man. I am generally a calm person who respects institutional procedures, but something about this situation did not feel right. I had to make several telephone calls, and within minutes, the staff suddenly became active and started attending to the patient. How many ordinary Ugandans are going through similar experiences and losing their loved ones because of such scenarios? I have since been told that some medical personnel allegedly use such delays to solicit money from patients’ relatives, leaving them desperate enough to offer whatever they can to secure treatment. I cannot independently verify this allegation, but if it is happening, it is a deeply troubling abuse of the medical profession. Two days ago, another patient was referred from Koboko to Mulago for specialised treatment after complications arising from a haemorrhoid surgery. The patient had reportedly been bleeding excessively for two weeks. The Emergency Unit initially attempted to assist through the normal procedures, but the patient was subsequently referred to a ward near the Heart Institute. To our utter disbelief, the doctor reportedly instructed the family to return to Koboko, claiming that the hospital could not manage the problem. These were people who had travelled more than 500 kilometres seeking specialised medical attention, only to be told to return home. They were also reportedly informed that if the problem required corrective surgery, they would have to wait until the 27th. The patient spent two days at the unit without receiving the necessary attention. Shocked by this treatment, I contacted a professor who had previously attended to the same patient. He questioned why the patient had been turned away. When we explained what had happened, he was equally perplexed and could not understand why someone in need of medical attention would be sent back without the appropriate intervention. He instructed us to return to the ward and contacted a doctor to attend to the patient. By evening, the patient was finally receiving the appropriate care. Why did it take all that intervention before the patient could receive the attention they desperately needed? Why the delays, and why was the patient turned away in the first place? It was particularly disturbing to see the urgency change when the senior doctor became involved. These experiences raise serious questions about patient care, professional conduct, accountability and the possibility of patients being subjected to unnecessary delays while their conditions deteriorate. Hon. Chris, Dr Charles and Dr Atwine, I appeal to you to make unannounced visits to Mulago, speak directly to patients and their attendants, and independently assess what happens in the wards and emergency units when senior officials are not around.

🚨🔴⚪️ THE GYÖKERES REVERSAL WILL BE INSANE. There’s going to be a point where Viktor Gyökeres starts scoring for fun. One goal becomes two. Two becomes five. Suddenly everything he touches is finding the net. And that’s when some of the loudest critics will mysteriously disappear — or rewrite history and tell everyone they always believed in him. 😂 I’m keeping the receipts. The screenshots. The accounts. The takes. When Gyökeres catches fire, I’ll know exactly who was there for him — and who wasn’t, I swear, I will be here to attack account by account. We are waiting for you.🧑‍🍳🎯 #AFC #Arsenal #COYG

🚨🔴⚪️ I’M STANDING WITH GYÖKERES. At some point, we have to ask ourselves: what did Arsenal expect would happen? This boy arrived with fire in his eyes, confidence in his game and the belief that he could deliver for Arsenal. He gave everything, committed himself to the project and helped us win the league. Then suddenly, the message started changing. He was benched from game to game. His place was constantly questioned. Arsenal were even reportedly considering him in potential swap deals. How is a striker supposed to build confidence when the club keeps showing him that he isn’t trusted? We told him he was the man. Then we made him feel like he wasn’t good enough. Now his confidence is on the floor — and we expect him to perform like nothing happened. I’m sorry, but we have to take some responsibility. This player gave everything to Arsenal. He surrendered a huge part of his career to come here, and instead of building him up, we have broken him down. You cannot destroy a player’s confidence and then demand the same player suddenly produce at the highest level. Stand with Gyökeres. Give him belief. Give him support. Give him time. He deserves that from us. ❤️ #AFC #Arsenal #Gyökeres #COYG

The scene at Entebbe today was my 'seeing is believing' moment. It was as real as it could be, the beloved King of Tooro, HM Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Rukidi IV, has transitioned to the next life. I could see the painful emotions across faces and in the atmosphere. For me the most significant thing about the moment is the death of a King. The throne is empty. The Crown is unheld, both literally and more importantly customarily. For any monarchy, the Crown is the point of convergence of its entire heritage - norms, practices, customs, territory, identity and the people. A group of humans remain persons until they are part of a heritage, then they become a people (this is what my maternal grandpa used to tell me - that I must know and identify with Pajule people because I was his grandson but not one of his people 🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️) Sitting on the throne is a full responsibility to the Crown. A responsibility that calls for sacrifice, dedication and authority to the Crown. When one is crowned, s/he is bestowed upon the heavy weight of providing leadership and guardianship to an entire heritage, a kin - people related through blood ancestry. The head of the kin-ship is the King. His domain is the King-dom. A King by virtue of being the holder of the Crown must protect and preserve it. Yet, for one to be able to preserve something s/he must be motivated to know it well, appreciate its worth, cherish all its dimensions, and swear absolute fidelity to it. The late King Oyo saying that if he wasn't a King he would be in the military, is one testament that he had the right trait for the Crown, the drive to defend something prestigious. How does one get to know and revere the Crown? This is the most critical part. One has to be put through traditions of the heritage, undergo an education, mentorship, active participation in activities of the heritage, learn from his own or his kinsmen's experiences, and attention to history. Traditions is a key component of preservation of an heritage and it is passed from one generation to another. Kings as the head of the kin, are the heritage in human flesh. They were/are expected to pass on the heritage to their offspring. This is one of the reasons why sons were lined up to succeed their fathers (who preserved the Crown). There can be instances where the King fails in this duty and his noble kinsmen (who are collectively referred to as the royal clan) have the right to remove the crown from his custody and bestow it on to somebody else. Therefore it was never automatic that a King can rule as he wants or it is guaranteed that his sons (or daughters in some kingdoms) will inherit the Crown. There is no King without Crown. A weak or an ineffective King weakens the Crown. A weak Crown is a weak heritage. It fizzles out into oblivion, it gets overrun by stronger forces. In this day and age, the strongest forces threatening Crowns are leftwing ideologies and capitalism. A heritage that desire to preserve itself must arm itself and be ready to fight the anti-establishment leftwing and capitalist hawks. I mourn with the people of Tooro and pray to the Creator to protect their heritage and grant them wisdom as they prepare to pass the Crown to the next bearer.

Asuman Kiyingi: Netanyahu statue at Entebbe is an assault on Uganda’s sovereignty, constitutional order No publicly identified statutory or other legal authority empowers the Chief of Defence Forces to unilaterally determine whom Uganda should immortalise on State land. Nor has any public explanation been offered identifying Cabinet approval, parliamentary oversight, or a lawful administrative process authorising the dedication of public airport property to honour a foreign military commander. The symbolism is equally troubling. The State appears prepared to honour the commander of a foreign military force that entered Uganda without consent while offering no comparable national recognition to the Ugandan soldiers who lost their lives defending Entebbe Airport in the course of their military duties. Whatever one thinks of the government of President Idi Amin, those soldiers died defending Ugandan territory against foreign military force. Public monuments should unite a nation around its constitutional values. They should not celebrate events that remain deeply contested within Uganda’s own historical experience. observer.ug/viewpoint/netany…
