"I think we could benefit from a much closer trade and defence relationship with Europe." Ed Davey says the UK should rejoin the EU's single market and customs union, which would lead to "free movement of labour".

Is this the moment we can finally fix social care? For the sake of millions of carers and our loved ones who need care, I will do everything I can to make it happen. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

This has to be the start of a real effort to end the social care catastrophe. @AndyBurnham says he’s willing to spend political capital on this - and so am I. I’ll fight to ensure family carers aren't forgotten. We need cross-party consensus, and I hope the PM’s door is open.
Andy Burnham will unveil plans next week for adult social care in the first major policy speech of his premiership as he pledges to “face it and fix it” The prime minister has pledged to overhaul social care so that it “operates on the NHS principle” and is free at the point of need in a move that is projected to cost £18.5 billion a year However, The Times has been told that this “universal” offer is unlikely to cover the “daily living costs” of a care home, such as laundry, food, accommodation and energy bills It means home residents could still face bills of tens of thousands of pounds for accommodation costs under proposals for a new National Care Service Covering these costs for everybody would add about an extra £16 billion to annual costs, according to estimates based on average care home fees Dame Louise Casey, who is leading a commission looking at adult social care in England, is poised to launch a national conversation this month on how it should be paid for Burnham is expected to give a speech setting out his vision in London next week With @eleanorhayward and @ProducerOllie thetimes.com/article/ff51a7a…

“I always think stone built Edinburgh, I live in a second half of the 19th century, house myself, and there is just an elegance and a solidity about them, and when you think of some of the less distinguished buildings in Prince's Street, it's such a shame.”
While Lib Dem representatives at all levels of government engage with the engineers and transport orgs in the aftermath of the Princes Street Fire, it has been a sad personal loss for many of our members too on the site of the old Liberal Club. edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edi…

Liberal Democrats believe in empowering people: whether it’s carers who feel exhausted and unheard, families struggling to get support, or communities failed by water companies. It’s why we’ll continue to stand up to Nigel Farage as he tries to import Trump-style politics here.

We need to ramp up our industrial base and get serious about Scotland’s defences. The world has become a more dangerous place, but if handled correctly, this can be an opportunity for Scottish jobs and Scottish industry.

Nigel Farage described the ban on handguns brought in following the Dunblane school shooting as "ludicrous" and a "kneejerk reaction". This is the man Lord Offord wants to put into Downing Street. #stvdebate

Last week Trump said he didn't need Britain's help because he'd already won this war. So we mustn't let him push the UK around now. Any decision on the deployment of our Armed Forces should be made in the UK's national interest and subject to a vote in Parliament.
