I’ve seen a lot of discourse about Oxford street from able bodied people, and I’m tired of y’all telling disabled people it’s all good!! Unless you have to do it, please stop telling people it’s all good! They launched this with not enough accessible care imo.
Went to Oxford Street to try out the pedestrian zone. Oh dear. Accessibility? Nah yet again.

Good the Standard remembered bus passengers. No one else has. This is the culmination of years of Mayors’ regarding buses as a problem instead of respect for London’s most important transport mode. Sad. standard.co.uk/news/london/o…

I don’t know why there’s an obsession with cyclists so much money spent on cycle lanes, schemes across London. Yes it’s good to cycle but it’s too much now. Spend ££ on bus lanes, new routes, improving frequencies etc. Buses in London need more love they shouldn’t be neglected.

Sad to say if you want to use a bus to get across the West End you’ll be stuck in a traffic jam. No wonder lots of passengers opt for the tube, Lizzy Line instead. There has been a decline in bus use across Central London. Priorities should be given to buses not just cyclists.
Closing much of Oxford Street to traffic may be a good thing in principle, but yesterday I watched buses struggling to navigate turning off, causing gridlock. I think of people with disabilities who rely on buses&can’t walk long distances. Where is their public transport access?

1/2 I’ll never get over not being able to meet Amy Winehouse. I knew her late Godfather who invited me for a coffee in Golders Green in the early 00s. I was 10 mins late. Didn’t know Amy was going to be there. I’ll never forget what he said when I finally got there. “Dear boy…

2/2 you must get to places on time, I wanted you to meet Amy, she had to go”. Well 20yrs since Back to Black Amy’s greatest album dropped. All day today @VirginRadioUK will be playing every track from the album plus a previous unheard interview. Props to an iconic album. Tune in.

If you’re on 55 to Oxford Street like many , it now detours into the hinterland. Many people, particularly older people hate the tube. I hate it, but I can manage. Think of others.

1/2 Horrid what Lucie went through. A former colleague of mine at the BBC in local radio left an awful voice note on WhatsApp when I posted a thread on Facebook about the Israel Palestine situation to get my friends view on the situation. They said I should have taken sides.
“We’ve all got different politics, that doesn’t mean we can’t work together.” Lucie Kon, former BBC producer, explains how she was ‘forced out’ by colleagues at the BBC for her ‘zionist’ beliefs following October 7th.

2/2 They were pro Palestinian. The tone of the message was horrid. It put me in an awkward position. I decided not to keep in contact with them after the message. Sadly it ruined relations within our circle but probably for the best.

Can see the case for reinstating 94 down Regent Street assuming you can terminate them around Trafalgar Square. To improve connectivity can also see a case for diverting 390 away from Tottenham Court Td and through Oxford Circus and Mayfair in the second phase.

I agree! Bus 94 could’ve gone via Park Lane towards Piccadilly.

🙏 This was my first thought. Luckily I don’t travel down Oxford Street very often anymore but plenty of other people with disabilities do. The cyclists on the pavement this morning also looked like a huge hazard to the visually and mobility impaired.
