Closing minor roads to through traffic is a legitimate traffic management initiative. But the approach taken by cycle fanatics, cycling journos, academics, the government and local highway authorities during Covid and after was a disaster.
Lambeth Council's own report has found the West Dulwich LTN resulted in “no significant traffic reduction” but increased congestion on boundary roads. The courts found that the Council had acted illegally when installing it & ordered its removal. telegraph.co.uk/gift/fe78242…

London’s bus services are slower than ever. They are still replacing bus lanes with bike tracks, reducing junction capacity for buses and not bothering to enforce parking in bus lanes.

Drainage has been hopeless here ever since the cycle scheme went in. Hoping cyclists are alarmed uncomfortable with the situation, as they may get a response. Pedestrians never do, of course @BrendaPuech . Junction of crossway and Boleyn road

Ken deserves most praise for establishing the mechanism for paying for the Elizabeth Line and Boris for not screwing up the project.
A deserving RIBA Stirling Prize winner, thanks to your public vote. Opening the Elizabeth line remains one of my proudest achievements. We inherited a project facing major challenges, but today it supports more than 700,000 journeys a day, contributes £42bn to the UK economy and is the UK's busiest and most popular railway. It's a powerful reminder of how important it is to dream and invest big in large-scale transport infrastructure projects.

.@LonTravelWatch wants to see a halt to floating bus stops; Most of the London Assembly want floating bus stops halting; The Government’s disabled transport advisory committee wants to see them halted; The Tory Party want them halted The RNIB want them halted; Guide Dogs want them halted; Pocklington Trust want them halted; The National Federation for the Blind UK and 290 other groups want them halted. @Heidi_Labour installed some of these schemes and wants to solve the problem ‘in the round’ but has failed to do so. The @MayorofLondon says it’s important to consult and it’s the cyclist fault, not the design.

This scheme is a good one from @hackneycouncil, though because @Willnorman closed off motors turning left at Dalston junction it’s going to cause opposition and problems. If you are closing down minor streets you have to have a functioning primary network.

This floating bus stop was installed by Boris Johnson ten years ago. It was a really stupid idea then and nothing has changed. If anything electric bikes have made things worse.
Went back to Farringdon Road Floating Bus Stop in the City of London. @andyburnham these will never be safe or accessible for blind people. Andy please halt them.

So @LonTravelWatch has taken a view, @TfL’s own disability advisors, IDAG, and the government’s statutory advisors, DPTAC, have taken a view. All want to see a halt to floating bus stops. It’s time for @TransportFocus and the @LondonAssembly to call an end to it all! @CarolineRussell @EllyBakerAM @EmmaBest22 @NeilGarratt @Len_Duvall @AndrewBoff

This is a lie. The cycle route from Hackney Town Hall through London Fields along Goldsmiths Row and on to Shoreditch has been in place for well over two decades. The previous Cycling Commissioner under Mayor Johnson even rode it.

Very powerful messages from Jonathan @CivilCspa and John @ageuklondon to @andyburnham at @10DowningStreet on floating bus stops. It is essential the Prime Minister listens and acts on the concerns raised please.

Essex County council say this design of floating bus stop has the support of the DfT! From the correspondence I have seen that is not true.

Sheila’s life has been upended by Essex council’s floating bus stop scheme that introduced cycles onto a very steep hill. They are quite mad and have been supported by the government’s Active Travel quango in their madness. @Meg_HillierMP @MarshadeCordova @steveracemp @elsieblundell @danfrancis02 @RicHolden
Sheila’s message to @andyburnham @10DowningStreet on Monday over the floating bus stops being built on East Hill in Colchester, some of which are the designs @transportgovuk asked councils to pause 🤔. Andy are you going to help Shelia to stop these works please?

York station cycling scheme demonstrates just how stupid it is to allow cycle fanatics to design our streets. You don’t need to do this crazy stuff to get more people cycling more safely.
In the 2 weeks since it opened, so many cyclists have been observed riding the wrong way up the single direction cycle track that the Council has now painted NO ENTRY on it. There isn’t enough paint anywhere to make unsafe infrastructure safe for blind people. #WhiteCaneSafetyDay
