California desperately needs to give voters the ability to vote for all the candidates they like rather than just one.
If they did that, every runoff would be between the two actually most popular candidates in the state (which would always be two Democrats).
CALIFORNIA POLL - Governor (top 2 advance)
🟦 Becerra: 24% (+9)
🟥 Hilton: 23% (+3)
🟦 Steyer: 15% (=)

What we need is approval voting, a methodology that enables us to get past the problems (such as the "lesser of two evils" dilemma) that plague *every* election.

Voter ID and vote security are obvious administrative necessity, but not enough. The far bigger problem is first past the post voting producing duopoly via the spoiler effect. The ancient Greeks didn’t design democracy as a two horse race. Approval voting overcomes the duopoly.

Yes, Approval is much simpler!

Today in "we need voting mechanisms that select moderates rather than polarized swings": just as "don't enforce the border" led to a huge political swing, "cowards in masks illegally harassing random people for ID" will lead to the reverse. @ATabarrok - time for approval voting?

It's fantastic to see more and more communities learning about Approval Voting at campaign events!
It's refreshing to have candidates who understand that better voting starts with one simple tweak to the ballot: letting voters choose all the candidates they approve of.

Utah State Senator Dan Thatcher switched from the GOP to the Forward Party in March. Then he resigned in October. Utah state law allowed the Forward Party to pick his replacement which was done by Approval Voting where people vote for all the candidates of which they approve.

Term limits would not be necessary if our elections were actually competitive. Adopting approval voting makes every election competitive, thus restoring accountability and thus youthful energy to our representation.
