Good on former Everton, Barca and England hit man Gary Lineker for blocking people who see hospitals being bombed and say ‘The Drs and Nurses have a lot to answer for here’.

All of these countries moving “defensive” forces into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect against Ansarallah air attacks—what happens when Trump-Netanyahu restart their criminal war on Iran. Will they all be at war with Iran too? Is that the unspoken purpose here?

Since September, the Saudi war in Yemen has displaced at least 130,000 people from their homes. A staggering 17 million people face hunger. Britain's support for this catastrophic war - and its complicity in horrendous suffering - must end. Where is the strategy for peace?

Lots of interesting bits of info in the SAS in Syria story in the Times - e.g. the SAS captured some suspects and took them to Foreign Office "approved" Kuridsh prisons archive.ph/pgrOU @ElwinWay

The Russian armed forces go from being a bunch of clowns armed with spades (so if we Arm Ukraine they’ll win easily!) or a technologically advanced behemoth that presents a huge threat (that’s why we have to spend more £ on our own armed forces), depending on what’s convenient.

Starmer’s levels of duplicity and lying. Burnham, with a straight face, here claims he wants to “push power out of Westminster” while yesterday threatening to throw local government into chaos unless Green coalition partners publicly denounce anti-zionism!
"My message to John is simple, I want to push economic power out into the regions of Scotland, do you?" Andy Burnham challenges Scotland's First Minister John Swinney to "push power" out from Westminster and Holyrood "into the hands of local people" bbc.in/4yl7lNX

I'm the only Jewish leader of a political party. I'm a victim of Antisemitism every day and I've made it clear Jewish people are welcome in my party. You're a Prime Minister who arms a genocide and locks pensioners up for opposing it.
Andy Burnham rules out any partnership between Labour and the Green Party due to their controversial motion declaring "Zionism is racism". 🔗 trib.al/c05KDDg

Reading about the Idiots Act 1886 and The Mental Deficiency Act of 1913. The latter especially - which formalized ‘Idiot’ as an administrative category signifying profound ‘learning disability’ - led to institutionalized violence against disabled and neurodivergent people.

This is the problem with political influencers shaping the conversation on Palestine without organizing with or being accountable to Palestinian communities or organizations. Their audiences give them influence over our movement, but we have no way to hold them accountable. Now we have to pressure politicians AND lobby the influencers who can turn thousands of people against us for doing it. They get to decide which Palestinian demands are reasonable and which are “purity politics,” without answering to the people who live with the consequences. It creates the illusion of accountability while giving politicians another layer of protection from it.

I wrote this on Ed Miliband's conference speech - both on what it included and what it left out: xitter.cf/MiddleEastEye/status/2…
"Miliband speaks of a Middle East policy shift - so it's time to pick a side The UK government cannot credibly tell Palestinians and their supporters that they were right about Gaza, while simultaneously enabling Israeli atrocities" ✍️Opinion by Tom Blackburn

I strongly oppose the removal of the pensions triple-lock. More than 2 million pensioners live in poverty. They will be the ones who suffer the most by taking away pension security. We must protect the principle of universalism. That is why we opposed cuts to winter fuel - and that is why we must oppose any means-testing of the state pension. This isn't about old versus young. This is about the super-rich versus the rest. That's why we should be taxing wealth to fund social care for all.

Young people who think every pensioner owns property and is a millionaire I often think are showing their background, as they can surely only mean that their grandparents are like this and therefore project that as the norm for millions of people. It isn’t.
Explaining to people in their thirties crowing about Labour tearing up the triple lock that they are all young now, but one day they will be old.

Wondering if younger people arguing that older people’s state pensions should be taken away or cut will one day be the pensioners arguing younger people’s benefits should be taken away or cut. ‘It doesn’t help me so why should I care?’ Defend benefits for all age groups IMO.

Saudi Arabia killed 7 Yemenis today, & wounded 40. Notice the framing: Saudi Arabia isn't named. "Houthi-run health ministry" casts doubt on the toll, while Reuters gives the "internationally recognized government" its side. If Ansarallah retaliates, expect much less ambiguity.

As with Iraq, the long history of colonial subversion is erased completely in mainstream reporting on Iran. Perhaps because it might have people asking whether the motivations and aims of anglo-American imperialism in 2024 are very different to what they were in 1924.

In the 00s, I heard the 'Marxist' argument for invading Iraq from Labour types quite a few times (there was also the 'Marxist' justification for hating people on benefits). There are people out there who'll be horrible right wing bastards politically, and swear Because Marxism.
