I'd add:
Subpoena CEOs of the credit card banks that jacked up rates after the pandemic and kept them high
Subpoena CEOs of @PayPal @Klarna and other fintechs seeking bank charters
Subpoena CEOs of the 40 companies that received corporate pardons from @russvought's CFPB
Dear dozens of new economic populist members of Congress,
You’ll face fast pressure to deliver economic results. How to do it? Subpoena CEOs. A shocking amount of time, they'll change what they are doing long before you pass a bill or actually cut off their federal funding. So:
- Subpoena Google for cramming AI down our kids throats. Threaten to amend the FAR to prohibit contracting across the U.S. government with any company forcing kids to use AI.
- Subpoena the private equity managers enshittifying hospitals, dialysis centers, your local vet, your local primary care provider. Name individuals, not just companies. Shame them. Show the public (and public pension funds) how they make their money.
- Subpoena health insurers who use AI to auto-deny valid claims, triage mental health emergencies, or upcode diagnoses. Make them stop that.
- Subpoena the airlines for systematically denying cash refunds to travelers. (“Here’s a voucher instead!”) Show your hand – threaten the subpoena now, before Thanksgiving.
- Subpoena Brazilian meatpacker JBS for literally anything. For child labor, for getting fat and rich off of cattlemen, for making their workers work so fast their hands curl into claws, for persistent hygiene allegations.
- Subpoena corporate landlords. Show the public how they get rich off of hidden fees and not fixing their apartments.
- Subpoena any company that has been slow to issue tariff refunds to small business owners. I bet they’ll get their checks a lot quicker!
Will it work? See what happened when Instacart was exposed as secretly marking up your grocery cart... Yes, it can work.
P.S. If anyone tells you “No, you can’t do that” or “No, there’s a process for that,” ignore them. You know what time it is.

Happy NFL kickoff! Now pay up. Whether you're tailgating or watching on TV, this football season is the most expensive yet.
Cookout staples are up 10% from a year ago. Watching every NFL game on TV will run you $1,000. From @EmDiVito, @ENPancotti, and Kylee Countryman:

🚨 NEW: Homeownership is slipping out of reach — especially for young Americans. The median-priced home now costs +$400,000. Something is broken.
Our new housing plan borrows an idea that helped families buy affordable starter homes more than a century ago: the Sears “house in a box.”

The bill explicitly protects lots of coupons and discounts through loyalty programs and much more.
You’re still going to get 10% off at your favorite store on your birthday (if they want to give that deal to you).
Seniors and veterans still get their discounts too.
.@BusinessNYS opposes surveillance pricing ban arguing it’ll eliminate coupons (bill sponsors disagree):
“It’s important for the public to understand that these discounts are not disappearing because businesses chose to end them, but because the Legislature is banning them.”

Just after 12:30 AM and @TishJames’ top priority — to ban surveillance pricing — just passed both houses.
Big time issue, big time victory. ✅✅
Surveillance pricing ban bill -- favored by @NewYorkStateAG -- is being debated on the assembly floor now and slated to go before the senate before sunrise.

.@ezraklein and @DKThomp are spot on: you can't solve the housing crisis without addressing financing.
It's clear: we can’t deregulate our way to affordability.

NEW from me: The White House (and many economists) expected $700 to $1,000 higher refunds, on average.
The reality is closer to $375.
Bottom line: Yes, refunds are higher in 2026 (and likely to be the highest ever). But it's less of a spending boost (and cushion against higher gas prices) than many expected.

Last week, @Groundwork's @EmDiVito detailed how hundreds of thousands of borrowers are facing collection of "zombie" loans they thought were long gone.
Today, @SenWarren is demanding answers from Russ Vought for dropping the ball.
Senator Warren seeks answers from Vought on CFPB ‘zombie’ mortgage investigations following Bloomberg series detailing how thousands faced huge bills on old debts. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

As if the Great Recession wasn't haunting enough, debt collectors are going after the "zombie" mortgages left over from the era.
My piece for @BorrowerJustice explores the predatory behavior that's threatening families with *decades* of back interest on loans -- or eviction.
