Pains me to say it; but Netflix should probably disrupt itself again and find ways of signing exclusive deals with content creators to create and stream short-form content

Another good chart to illustrate this, even though he mentions Netflix. D+ is like nonexistent.

Very honored and excited to contribute to @EntStrategyGuy's newsletter. Check out my breakdown of Netflix's disappointing summer movie season.
Guest article alert! I’ve wanted to deep dive into Netflix’s miserable movie months, and I called in the incomparable @Great_Katzby to help me out. Check this one out, it’s great! entertainment.substack.com/p…

I'm not sure I would have gone with Titanic as the first clip on the sizzle reel. $PSKY
What once was the peak, is now just the beginning. Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling. We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight. We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance. I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.

It's not a good movie. But in spots, it's a good NIN music video.
I'm sorry, I am going to need to speak to @EntStrategyGuy's manager since it should be known that @AlyssaRosenberg, @petersuderman and I panned TRON: ARES *completely fairly* as it was a terrible movie.

What's on Netflix is on for its traffic month in its history (and rev!). Kind of insane to say in the height of the AI world and Netflix all-in on TUDUM. Added so many great contributors to the site this year and hopefully onboarding more soon!

As @EntStrategyGuy notes, "The Pitt" currently ranks as the second-best second season of all time (at least according to Nielsen numbers) and will likely top "Landman's" second season next week. That's wild! (1/2)

I think casual observers do not entirely realize quite how successful Paramount+ is. The Sheridan-verse is particularly legit. This is from @EntStrategyGuy’s latest; link to follow.

A must-read investigation today by @KaylCobb and @tessspatton on @thewrap PRO. Microdrama hype mask a darker reality. And the economics are very tough:
Microdramas are racing toward an $11 billion payday, but the phone-first boom hides a darker reality: formulaic, often whitewashed casting, breakneck nonunion production schedules and graphic content that actors describe as exploitative, all fueled by freemium cliffhangers that can cost viewers $40 just to see how a story ends. As Hollywood flirts with the format’s explosive growth, the industry’s next “big thing” increasingly resembles a content mill, prioritizing volume and monetization over creative risk, worker protections and raising questions about who actually benefits from microdrama’s meteoric rise. This is not a new thing, but it is WILD how popular football is. As such, it's coveted by all the streamers. But I do wonder if eventually TV rights get SO expensive to acquire that the league runs out of bidders. And then ... things will get weird. thebulwark.com/p/why-streami…

For the second year in a row, Netflix has only one English language show (that we can track) that grew views season over season...
STRANGER THINGS defied the odds and became the only show on Netflix to grow audience in 2025. Some of the biggest losers were FUBAR (-75.9%), THE SANDMAN (-60%), and THE WITCHER (-52%) 🔗 whats-on-netflix.com/news/al…
