What happens if the technology protecting our crypto wallets becomes vulnerable in the future? most people rarely think about this when using crypto today. We’re more concerned about keeping our private keys safe, avoiding scams and making sure are funds safe and not ending up in the wrong hands. But there’s another side to security that deserves attention: the cryptography behind our wallets and transactions. Technology keeps evolving. Quantum computing and new mathematical discoveries could eventually weaken some of the cryptographic methods we rely on today. Nobody knows exactly when or how these breakthroughs will happen. But waiting until a problem becomes urgent isn’t the best way to prepare for it. And this is where cryptographic agility comes in. Think about the lock on your front door. If that lock becomes easy to break, you’d want to replace it with a stronger one. You wouldn’t want to tear down your entire house just to change the lock. Blockchain security should follow a similar principle. Instead of building systems that are difficult to update, we need systems that can adapt as security requirements change. This is one of the interesting things about Starknet. On @Starknet , accounts are programmable smart contracts. This gives developers more flexibility over how transactions are authorized. For example, developers can introduce new signature methods without requiring an upgrade to the entire network. Why is this a big deal? Because if the signature method an account relies on needs to change in the future, developers have a way to make that change without rebuilding the whole system. Starknet also uses hash based STARK proofs to verify computation, which is relevant to preparing for potential quantum threats. Of course, this doesn't mean every part of Starknet is already quantum resistant. There is still work to do, including considering the cryptography Starknet relies on through Ethereum. The goal is to prepare early and make sure security can evolve when it needs to. Personally, I think this is an important conversation for the blockchain industry. We often talk about speed, cheaper transactions, and scalability. But long-term security matters just as much. It’s not only about how secure a blockchain is today.
