Of course he did. Palantir hired Tom Watson to schmooze his old pals. And he did.
There is no world in which Palantir helps boost "the UK's tech sovereignty". We need to know exactly how @YvetteCooperMP made this decision, based on what evidence & what data?
Palantir’s Tom Watson, ex-Labour MP, wrote to Yvette Cooper last month saying the controversial US company could help boost the UK’s tech sovereignty, letters show. Weeks later, sources say the UK is extending its NHS contract for two more years

The Bank of England has raised interest rates to 4%, supposedly to tackle inflation.
There is just one problem with this decision. The Bank knows that much of the inflation we are suffering is being driven by rising oil and energy prices, largely resulting from conflict in the Middle East.
It also knows that raising interest rates cannot reduce those prices.
So why is it doing this?
The answer is that the Bank believes it must suppress demand elsewhere in the economy to compensate for rising energy costs.
In other words, it is deliberately making mortgages more expensive, increasing business borrowing costs, discouraging investment and reducing household spending power.
And all this when people are already struggling with higher energy bills. That is problem number one.
There is, however, another problem. Higher interest rates increase costs for businesses, which can then feed through into higher prices. They can, in that case, add to inflation rather than reduce it.
The Bank is imposing economic pain to address a problem its chosen policy cannot directly solve.
That is not sound economic management. It is the consequence of an economic dogma that refuses to recognise the difference between inflation caused by excessive demand and inflation caused by supply shocks.
When will we learn?

The other reality that hit this week is that most people don't need forever Frontier models to do day-to-day work. Revolut just replaced Claude Code with a Chinese open source model, saved 90% on their inference costs. All China had to do to invalidate "Big Buildout" was wait.

The closed-source vs open-source AI battle everyone is obsessed with is already over.
Revolut just saved 90% of its inference cost by moving 2000 engineers from Claude Code and Codex to a self-hosted GLM from Chinese AI lab Z.ai.

Big Tech has leaned hard into it's own self-generated $7trn gamble to spend until they replace every function of every job, with no fallback plan on deployed capital if they fail. Speculative trading is an outcome of the effect that is having on the markets not the reason for it.
BILL ACKMAN: STOCK MARKET IS "BROKEN" BY SPECULATIVE TRADING
Pershing Square founder Bill Ackman warns that excessive leverage and speculation are driving irrational stock-price swings.
Ackman compared today's trading environment to casino-style markets, criticizing leveraged products and perpetual futures.
However, he said the volatility has created buying opportunities for Pershing Square, including Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet.
He also praised Visa and Mastercard as two of the world's greatest businesses and highlighted Netflix as a portfolio holding.

The next time someone tells you that markets are rational remember that in 2026 pretty much every company simultaneously announced that they were going to borrow a quadrillion dollars to build 420 data centers in six months with chips they didn’t have powered by electricity they couldn’t get from turbines that weren’t built sent through transmission lines that didn’t exist and everybody was like “Cool, cool. Sounds good. Solid plan.”

Last night Trump said he could have won Vietnam in a week. His plan was “going after Ho Chi Minh City.”
Ho Chi Minh City was Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam. Our ally. The enemy’s capital was Hanoi. We bombed it.
He called the presidents who fought that war stupid, then explained how he’d have won it by attacking our own side.
58,220 Americans died in that war. Trump got five deferments. Now he’s telling the rest of us how easy it would have been.
He’s had more than fifty years to learn which side we were on. He still hasn’t. That alone should disqualify him from sending anybody else’s kids to war.
Instead, he’s weighing more strikes on Iran after Tuesday. His administration has reportedly considered using the “mother of all bombs,” the one he calls “like a tiny nuclear bomb.”
The man who thinks we should have bombed our ally’s capital gets to choose the targets.
