JUST IN—Today we filed a lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office seeking to permanently enjoin Florida’s “HALO" law, Fla. Stat. § 843.31, as unconstitutional both facially and as applied. The law violates the First Amendment because it is overbroad and the Fourteenth Amendment because it is unconstitutionally vague.

Because I am raising concerns about the flood of unvetted illegal immigrants overwhelming American cities, the press will often characterize me as “anti-immigrant”.
As an immigrant myself, nothing could be further from the truth.
I am very much in favor of increased and expedited legal immigration for anyone who is talented, hard-working and honest.
