CHESS IN KIRIKIRI FEMALE CUSTODIAL CENTRE Our founder said, “Stay professional while posting this. Don’t be too emotional.” Tomorrow is the final day of our 7-week Chess as a Correctional Tool Project at Kirikiri Female Custodial Centre, in partnership with Anchor Heritage Initiative. @anchorheritage It has been a 7-week life-changing experience for us and for the students. While there is so much I could say about the experiences, lessons, conversations, talents, and relationships we have encountered throughout this project, tomorrow is about the students and celebrating their journey. At 11 AM, the students will come together for the grand finale to celebrate, showcase their talents and skills through poetry, comedy, spoken words, newscasting, and singing, while also competing in the game of chess as we aim to crown our champion. Chess is more than just a game to these women. Every lesson, every position, every puzzle, every mistake, every correction, and every move has prepared them for this final day. We are glad to have been part of this journey and to have shared these 7 weeks with them. Tomorrow, we celebrate their growth, their creativity, their courage, and their ability to keep learning and expressing themselves despite their circumstances. And yes, our founder said not to be too emotional. But after 7 weeks, I think we are allowed to be a little emotional. Chess is more than just a game.

The inmates of Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre represented Nigeria 🇳🇬♟️ in the prestigious Chess For Freedom Intercontinental Competition.@FIDESocialChess @FIDE_chess We waved the Nigerian flag 🇳🇬 and placed Nigerian correctional service on the global map. The beautiful story ever told about this initiative is…..

Hello Mr. Tunde Onakoya, @Tunde_OD thank you for your gracious support, and we are so excited about the gift (Nigerian Special Adire chess board). We say a big thank you to @icnnyc for their great believe in us and their unwavering support ❤️❤️ This small place in Ikorodu is where we educate young minds in the neighborhood slum and give them a chance to have a place in the world. This small place has produced national chess medalists and has given over 100 children the chance to compete in the outside world and explore it. Our work has helped over 20 children get back to school through our Back-to-School program. It will be a great joy to have you visit us with the chess board and inspire the children to dream more. Our sole mission is to prove that great things can happen in a small place, and that children from the slums, if given the opportunity, can add great value to the world.
