🧵Thanks, we need more widespread education on propaganda.
Just as importantly, we need to explore *why* we are vulnerable to it, and the psychological mechanism at play.
Normal, empathic people are vulnerable because they project their own goodness onto others
and naively presume no-one would ever try to manipulate/harm them.
Normal, empathic people are disadvantaged
because they simply cannot get their heads around
the cold machinations of psychopathic, sociopathic peoples and systems… and the way they use the
victim card to (a) play on emotions and (b) camouflage
perpetrator goals.
This needs to change. We need to catch up, do research on dark triad abusive behaviours and learn to identify the primary tool: gaslighting.
Gaslighting is far worse than lying: it inverts and denies others’ reality and induces (measurable) confusion and helplessness.
The gaslighters gain power and control (via framing and narrative creation) over the hapless, who are ignorant of the psychological mechanism at play.
We need to understand this control dynamic far better.
Become resistant to gaslighting by studying its mechanisms better. Read; watch youtube lectures.
Once more of us can identify what’s at play -
the gaslighting tactic of Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender (DARVO)
- the more the red flags can be called out.
Education is key.

A bit weird….

I did not vote for the Republicans at the mid-term election -- nor for the Democrats, who can hardly be trusted. Both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of provoking and funding the unlawful wars against Russia and Iran. Both are and remain war-mongers.

Europe and North America are clearly on a declining trajectory, but that does not mean that have given up on their designs for World Domination. Something far more dangerous is going on.
Kyoto University Symposium 2026: "Geopolitics in the Time of Monsters"
Presentation 4: Nel Bonilla
Nel Bonilla challenges the assumption that Western decline necessarily leads to collapse or a peaceful multipolar order. Drawing on Antonio Gramsci, she examines how weakened legitimacy can coexist with coercion, institutional survival and the obstruction of alternatives. Her account of the bunker state connects austerity, militarization and elite power. The Kyoto Symposium discussion considers European dependence, competing interests and the fragmented forces opposing the existing order, asking what shared political language, organization and institutions might make meaningful systemic change possible.

The most fragile moment in 500 years of Western imperial dominance is also its most dangerous. As power slips away, the masses are forming into a new and frightening way. And it all has to do with psychology.
Kyoto University Symposium 2026: "Geopolitics in the Time of Monsters"
Presentation 3: Prof. Mattias Desmet
Why do even intelligent people fall for the most ridiculous narratives? At the Kyoto Symposium, Mattias Desmet presents his theory of mass formation, linking loneliness, anxiety and collective identification to propaganda and intolerance. He argues that sincere speech can rebuild human connections and resist destructive conformity. The discussion tests his account against history, modernity, class, racism and contemporary geopolitical conflict. Audience members challenge his assumptions and explore whether psychological explanations can complement structural analysis when diagnosing the dangers facing societies today.
