Road trips. In odd, unexpected cars of dubious reliability, usually decades old, often British. They run at the start of the trip. What could possibly go wrong?

Now this, THIS, is Tempting Fate on a truly epic scale. (1) Build replica of Le Monstre using only original 1950 Cadillac parts; (2) Race it at Le Mans Classic; (3) Drive it entirely across America towing a small trailer. Derek Drinkwater, we salute you. hagerty.com/media/motorsport…

British cars are unreliable, they say. All of 'em leak oil, they say. Lucas electrics are a nightmare, they say. You have to have 2 just for 1 to run on any given day, they say. Nah. More attention needed than a Toyota, yes. But read this MGB story. hemmings.com/stories/moss-mo…

Possibly the most appropriate flowchart ever for owners of British cars. We plan to print this out + attach it to the dashboard of every future Tempting Fate Tours fleet vehicle.

So, #LemonsRally participants, use this photo to ID the competition: the ONLY known image of Team Tempting Fate Tours all in one place...in this case, a secret, private candlepin bowling alley. L to R: @TheStylusGuy, Tom Rymes, @JohnVoelcker. See y'all at @larzanderson on Friday!

I stand (slightly) corrected: It's a 1964 TE21 Alvis Graber Super.
Sometimes your friends have all the fun: 1964 Alvis Graber coupe somewhere in the Swiss Alps. As he said, "It turns out the answer isn't always Miata."

Yes, this is a car that's been off the road for more than half a century. Yes, that's an original California black-and-gold. Yes, it's a woody wagon. We have some fun stuff coming up ...

Yeah, we know it's been a long time. A really long time. Like, 11 months. Life intervened + we still owe everyone videos from our MGB-GT adventure last summer. PLUS, we're planning another adventure + at least one "Team Tempting Fate Tours" entry in a Lemons Rally. Stay tuned.

We're still sad we didn't get a chance to meet James, Chris + Tim, but ... there is always more fate to be tempted ...

Yes, Tom tempted fate a bit today. But the 1981 Austin Metro made it to Maine without issue. It needs finetuning, a lower idle speed, and gas leaks out the top of the tank when full ... but that’s it. Rest easy, @IkeKitman + @JamieKitman. Also: Metro's made friends with an #EV.

The British sports-car brand #MG has been owned by Chinese companies since the collapse of the last of the native British industry in 2005. It is now exporting #EV models. The reduction gearboxes in the first batch of MG4s that came to Germany leaked oil. Brand. Values. Intact!

Frankly ... THIS is fate even we wouldn't tempt. We may be stupid, impulsive + foolish, but we're not insane. I think. hemmings.com/stories/youtube…

This #MGB now has properly working brakes, via @TheStylusGuy working into the late hours, w/advice by @TomRymes. Scott's Stylus sits in the background, watching warily as the new girl gets all the luv. Yep, Tempting Fate Tours has definitely corrupted another innocent soul. HEH.

The Tempting Fate Tours crew has a new intern! The notorious 'Isuzu Stylus Guy' now owns an old British car, made more than half a century ago. With issues. While he's not *yet* done absurd road trips in it, that's only a matter of time. Our Eeeevill Plan rolls forward. Heh heh.
