🇩🇪 Germany's AfD is closing in on first place in Hesse, the western state that's home to Frankfurt.
A new poll for public broadcaster hr has the AfD at a record 23%, just 2 points behind the CDU, which crashed 7 points to 25%, its worst result ever in the survey.
That leaves the CDU-SPD coalition running the state without a majority.
And the "firewall" against working with the AfD? Only a minority of voters still back it.
AfD co-leader Alice Weidel said even the West is now realizing the CDU is steering the country into the abyss with left-wing policies.
For years, the AfD was written off as an East German thing. Hesse just made that a lot harder to say.
