On the night of September 5, 2020, two hundred and forty-two campers, children, and dogs were trapped at the edge of Mammoth Pool Reservoir in California as a wall of wildfire flames roared down the mountain from every side.
The only road out was burning. The air was so choked with pitch-black smoke and flying embers that every civilian rescue helicopter was forced out of the sky.
Trapped families waded chest-deep into the dark reservoir water and began texting their final goodbyes to their loved ones.
Then a deep, heavy thumping sound shook the burning pine trees.
Why could a California National Guard CH-47F Chinook and a UH-60M Black Hawk fly into a firestorm where no civilian aircraft could survive? Because Chief Warrant Officer 5 Joseph Rosamond and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jeremy Goding were combat-tested military aviators flying on night-vision goggles and cockpit instruments through zero-visibility smoke that smelled like a furnace inside the cabin.
Guided only by the red glow of the flames and their radar altimeters over the water, the giant twin-rotor Chinook, callsign Brady 52, set its rear ramp down on the concrete boat launch while trees exploded into fireballs yards away.
A Chinook is normally configured to carry thirty troops. That night, the crew tore out the rules and packed one hundred and two terrified men, women, children, and dogs sitting shoulder to shoulder on the metal floor in a single lift.
Instead of staying safe after making it out, those National Guard crews turned their helicopters around and flew back into the blinding smoke two more times until all 242 people were rescued alive in seven hours.
When the sky turns to fire and the instruments go dark, thank God for the men who fly toward the flames.

Laken Riley had a Garmin smartwatch on when she was attacked
Her heart rate jumped to 170 bpm which told investigators that was when she was being attacked
It lasted for 17 minutes then suddenly stopped - that's when the animal finally killed her
So the next time you want to tell me about how unfair illegal immigrants are being treated I want you to set a timer for 17 minutes and watch it go by so you can understand how long that young woman fought for her life

College professor left completely stumped after @KaiSchwemmer started talking in Spanish after the professor said he welcomed mass migration.
Schwemmer: Would it be an issue if every city spoke a different language?
Professor: No.
Schwemmer: "Entonces sería bastante difícil si estuviéramos hablando, entendernos, porque nosotros no podemos entender lo que estamos diciendo y no podemos alcanzar tener respeto mutuo."
Brilliant.

What a hypocrite. @RebeccaForNJ07 forces her campaign donors to pay her nearly $16,000 personal childcare bills at the same time she fights to deprive families of childcare cost relief.
Hardworking families across the state don’t have the luxury of dark money donors paying their personal expenses. They rely on the expanded Child Tax Credit that I got done, which Bennett has vowed to undo.

You know what's more expensive than $4 a gallon gas?
-Paying student loans I never took out
-Paying for free food for someone that shouldn't even be here
-Paying healthcare for people that jumped the border
-Paying for infrastructure in a country I've never been to
-Paying for military protection for people that hate us
THAT is costing me a Hell of a lot more than $4 gas!!!

About the "public good"
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.
