And the Lib Dem led County Council made £300k - in “Amnesty month”! Plenty of income now to inflict more misery on residents & businesses. ☹️ Fears ring road areas are ‘dumping ground’ with new congestion charge in place oxfordmail.co.uk/news/256875…

Of course OCC councillors and staff are exempt from the congestion charge they've just imposed on Oxford. They're more important, and better, than the rest of us. Their rules only apply to the little people.
From FB this morning.

Today the Lib Dem administration at #Oxfordshire County Council approved the #Oxford congestion charge scheme, despite the consultation results reflecting a lack of support. Our once beautiful county is being plagued by ANPR cameras to control or restrict our movements whilst hitting the pockets of drivers. We will be seeking advice as to the next steps and how we can challenge this decision.

Start listening to the public. The county council is hellbent to destroy local independent businesses with further road restrictions. Key workers will be put off working in Oxford. People of Oxford will struggle to find Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, care workers list goes on..

Warnings have been issued about this many times. There’s no “work from home” option for the many teachers who can’t afford Oxford property prices.

My letter to @AndrewGant3 following the news that, despite the @OxfordshireCC 's own consultation indicating strong opposition, they will be going ahead with a congestion charge - and using the money from it to support people from outside Oxford, not those who live in our city.

One of our data elves has reviewed typical congestion levels on St Cross Road in Oxford, one of the planned £5 congestion checkpoints. Rather than showing yet another video of an empty road during morning rush hour, here's the bigger picture, courtesy of Google's congestion map.
Is it all a bit embarrassing trying to justify putting a congestion charge on a road (this one, right here) that's mostly empty - even in term time rush hour - which also has low levels of pollution?

Apparently, Oxford's "congestion emergency" is so bad that this precise location needs a £5 daily congestion charge slapping on it, 12 hours per day, 365 days per year - including the school holidays (i.e. now). Alternatively, the claim is a big exaggeration, to say the least.

Missing in action - a "congestion emergency"in St Clement’s, 7.50am, at one of the proposed congestion charge site. Oxford's state schools are still in for a couple of weeks. Most private schools are on holiday until early September.

Just two more sleeps before polling day. If you dream of - Permit restrictions on your car use A levy which will hit our teachers & nurses for parking at their work A Zone which will tax those unable to afford an electric car. Then you’ll probably vote Lib Dem, Green or Labour. Otherwise, vote for people worth voting for.

The main threat to the UK car industry is UK government policy, not tariffs.Government wants every factory making diesel and petrol cars to be closed by 2030 with all the jobs gone. High UK taxes on manufacturers are now accelerating the decline of ICE car making.

When consultating on the traffic filters proposals, Oxfordshire County Council refused to allow residents to clearly state whether their support, opposition etc. So now residents have (again) taken matters into their own hands, by doing their own poll. oxfordmail.co.uk/news/250389…

Oxford City council will always find a reason to avoid anything which challenges the narrative around the traffic (mis) management by their colleagues at County. They can say whatever they like on their leaflets, but the truth is there to see.
Fresh from voting down proposals to be transparent about pollution levels inside the ZEZ expansion area, Oxford City Council's Labour, LibDem and Green blob of councillors have voted against indie councillor proposals to evaluate the impact of the traffic filters on businesses.

That the Oxfordshire County Council should seek to shoehorn this in a couple of months before the election on May 1st is disingenuous, as is their so-called consultation. It's not only North Oxford their plans are affecting, but also Jericho, St Clements and the centre of Oxford. A biker's paradise, not so much for others. Look beyond the pretty pics & fancy phrasing to see a clear intention to remove well used parking across various locations. We urge Oxfordshires businesses & residents to provide robust feedback. And on May 1st send this County coalition packing. letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/…

For the Monday morning crowd. Oxfordshire County Council's target of "reducing car miles by 20% by 2030" was last achieved in 2020, when most shops were shut, you were ordered to work from home, and it was mostly illegal to visit your family. Is everyone OK with this target?

Our New Year’s resolution for 2025 is to get Independent Oxford Alliance councillors elected to the County Council, where they can fight Councillor Gant’s undemocratic traffic restrictions and ensure that all Council decisions truly reflect the majority voice of local residents and businesses.
