AI is the least knowable thing I’ve seen in my career. With something as uncertain as AI, despite its great potential, I’m biased to playing it in the safer way.

A beautiful speech about the challenge—and necessity—of communicating in pursuit of connection from Cate Blanchett, one of this year's Praemium Imperiale laureates.
President Trump lashed out at a reporter Thursday after being asked about his health amid a busy schedule of campaign events ahead of the midterm elections.

A strong economy. Inflation making no progress toward the Fed's 2% target. Financial conditions that aren't tight. So why did the Fed hold?
Three things that stood out from the October FOMC meeting and Chairman Kevin Warsh’s press conference

Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

The key question ahead of the Fed meeting today was if economic activity is strengthening and broadening, inflation remains elevated, and most people think rates need to go up again, why wait until December?
Here's how Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh asked the question (put to him by @colbyLsmith of the NYT).
Boiled down, his answer suggested the Fed has built enough credibility that waiting six weeks costs little, so they’ll take the extra information. He never says that outright. Most of the answer offered a defense of his record rather than a rationale for this decision.
My mother used to say when I was kid, “Joey, nobody’s better than you. Everyone is your equal and everyone is equal to you.” That’s always been my north star. It's guided me my whole life, including during my presidency. In my new book, PROMISE ME, AMERICA, I write about how those lessons shaped the decisions I made in the Oval Office. It’s available for pre-order now, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you. promisemeamerica.com.
