Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

The key question ahead of the Fed meeting today was if economic activity is strengthening and broadening, inflation remains elevated, and most people think rates need to go up again, why wait until December?
Here's how Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh asked the question (put to him by @colbyLsmith of the NYT).
Boiled down, his answer suggested the Fed has built enough credibility that waiting six weeks costs little, so they’ll take the extra information. He never says that outright. Most of the answer offered a defense of his record rather than a rationale for this decision.

When asked about working with President Trump, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he has had “long, extended phone calls” with the president. Newsom said he is willing to work with the president and that he appreciates New York City Mayor Mamdani’s willingness to work with him, but said “there’s limits.”
“I’ll continue that posture,” Newsom said, referring to the “dozens of phone calls” he has had to work with Trump. “That said, he’s a different guy. This is not normal behavior.”
