Hurricane Melissa is a brutal reminder that nature doesn’t care about your politics.
We saw a Cat 5 storm tear through the Caribbean, and once again, we’re watching leaders scramble while communities brace for impact.
Here’s the truth: preparedness starts at home. Texas has already put $1 BILLION on the table to kickstart the largest coastal protection project in U.S. history — “The Gate.”
@GCPDTexas is leading the way and I know @realDonaldTrump will back this project because he knows what’s at stake.
Prayers for Jamaica. And prayers for America to wake up. #AmericaFirst #TexasStrong #TheGate #CoastalTexas #HurricaneMelissa

I will have a press conference today at 1:30pm with the latest update on Hurricane #Beryl from our state emergency operations center. Right now is the calm before the storm. Beryl can still move eastward and will strengthen before landfall tomorrow morning between Corpus Christi and Houston. Anyone planning to move away from the coast needs to move today. Residents staying in place should take precautions today for wind, heavy rain, potential flooding, storm surge on the coast, and possible tornados. Listen to your local officials for instructions in your area. For more information go to: tdem.texas.gov/beryl

Would love some help from electricity experts. I've attached the outage maps from Hurricane Ike (2008) as well as maximum sustained winds during the hurricane. It seems like a rough trigger for widespread outages is about 60 mph sustained?

A very frazzled Beryl is giving it a go this morning, but truth be told, it has to fight a lot of dry air yet. Details on what we expect from Beryl over the next couple days as it approaches Texas: theeyewall.com/a-very-frazzl…

Although we cannot be certain at this time, it increasingly looks as though Tropical Storm Beryl is on track to make landfall somewhere between Corpus Christi and Matagorda Bay on Monday. Here's what to expect in Houston:
