“Second tier” is a crazy way for a President to describe the ACC and Big 12 when they currently have the #1 and #2 team in the country, respectively.
In the "second tier" of college sports' caste system, Miami is positioning itself for a conference move while exploring football independence and fighting against a federal bill.
"If we have to go independent," the president says, "I like our chances."

Steve Sarkisian says a 24-team playoff might let coaches play younger guys early, absorb a couple losses, and still make a run.
I appreciate him saying the quiet part out loud. We’re literally talking about making September losses less consequential.

It blows my mind how the replies are all "good, bowl games suck." I don't understand that mentality at all. It will be a terribly sad day for college football when bowl games disappear.
A bowl executive told @On3 the bowl would rather fold than abandon decades of tradition as a power conference game by becoming a G6 vs. G6 matchup in 2027. They may get their wish

Ditching conference title games almost erases the meaning of conference titles, and they really do become simply groups with pooled media rights. If that's all they are, why wouldn't Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, etc., eventually go indie or form their own/smaller groups?
