Faced with a housing market where a basic one-bedroom apartment averaged $2,500 a month, the senior student gave up renting and moved back home with his parents in Calgary.
Because he only had in-person lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Chen booked low-cost flights for his 800-mile round-trip journey. He would wake up in Calgary, fly to Vancouver in the morning, take the bus to campus, attend his classes, and fly back home that same night.
At roughly $150 per round-trip ticket, eight flights a month brought his total commute bill to $1,200—less than half the cost of renting in Vancouver.
Chen even used the flight time to study and sleep, turning a viral housing crisis into an ingenious personal life hack.

BREAKING: Israeli police have arrested 7 suspects, including 3 school principals, in a vote buying scheme involving Mansour Abbas’s Ra’am party.
Investigators uncovered cash, envelopes containing thousands of shekels, and election materials.
Voters were offered ₪200 to ₪300 per household in exchange for political support.
Separately, Israel’s Shin Bet is investigating intelligence suggesting tens of millions of shekels from Qatar may have been used to influence the election.

• Threats and violence against polling officials
• Multiple people entering voting booths together
• Suspected duplicate-identity voting
• Discrepancies between voters and ballot envelopes
• Improper voter-mobilization software
Likud says the alleged violations may have compromised the integrity of the election and is demanding an immediate investigation.
Police have already opened an investigation into a suspected vote-bribery case involving cash and Ra’am ballots.
