On Ian Bishop's birthday ~ I keep coming back to this ball to Anwar in 1990. This was Bishop before the injuries. To make the ball do this in sub-continent was just crazy. Imagine the fast bowler we could've had in Bish had those injuries not happened!

@GaietiesCC's season ended with a wonderful last-ball finish inter-club jamboree at Walthamstow. Harold would be proud of how the club is thriving.

Some stat this
Zak Crawley has a lower first class average than Adil Rashid (coincidentally both have played 251 first class innings!).

Steve Smith joins the Joe Root club.
Ashes predictions: I think they’ll pick Jacks. And I think this is the ball that’ll swing it. Joe Root bowled through the gate. Mark Wood almost definitely n/a. Do you go with five quicks? Or four plus an extra batter who bombs it and can bowl balls like this?

Superb by the Aussies! In the last seven Ashes series in Australia, Australia has led 3-0 after 3 Tests in six of them.

So much went wrong for Australia in this series, losing Hazlewood for 5 Tests, Cummins for 2, Smith for 1, having to change openers mid-match etc, and they have proven incredibly adaptable and resilient. England had one vague plan and little willingness to adapt. And here we are.

Australia win the Ashes at the first opportunity. They win by 82 runs in Adelaide. England battled bravely in the fourth innings, but England have been utterly outclassed across the first three matches.

Over in Mount Maunganui, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, have both made centuries in each innings, the first such instance by a team's openers in Test history

In 4/6 innings this Ashes series Joe Root has walked out to the middle inside 10 overs. Turned one of these into a century in Brisbane but still...

Thanks Matthew, the Burton family appreciates your tribute. This is a pretty comprehensive account of we grew up with and what's been lost: youtu.be/jO6LRW5iTOA?si=fv03…
So sad to see this. My introduction to classical music was through free tickets to see Young Musician of the Year heats in Manchester, at which I watched him record his pieces to camera. Seemed magical. This was all shown on primetime. A lost world of arts broadcasting.
