Miami’s had a game where their opponent caught back-to-back Hail Marys and a game where their opponent recovered back-to-back onside kicks and all four plays were called back to benefit Miami. Never seen anything like it in my entire life.

I talked w/Rick Neuheisel about the Pac-12, which went to 9 games way back in 2006. The P12 did it b/c it was tough to get enough P5 H&Hs, so they decided to do it in-house Neuheisel spoke up at the time & said we're guaranteeing half the league has another league loss, & it's going to cost us postseason opportunities, but the league went ahead Danny is right, it upended the league late in the season almost every year. Another mistake by the P12 to go its own way w/out competitive leverage as its first consideration
I've never seen a league prepare everyone for losing more than the SEC this year. The Big Ten has played 9 since 2017. The Big 12 since 2011. The PAC 12 did it and was the reason they got screwed every year in the CFP era. There is no doubt a 9-3 team will get in but the nonstop whining about it is ridiculous

Texas Tech is in fact set to make a QB change and start Thomas Castellanos today against No. 22 Arizona, sources tell me and @chris_hummer
No. 13 Texas Tech has been considering a change to Thomas Castellanos at QB, possibly as soon as today against No. 22 Arizona, sources tell me and @chris_hummer. Will Hammond has started the first seven games but Castellanos got increased work with the first-team offense this week, including during Tech’s walkthrough yesterday.

Remember when… • one company had play-by-play data? Now, there are 10 • two companies would hoard & sell their “NIL Market Reports?” Well, here you go 👇 There is no data moat in college sports anymore. It’s all about what you do with the data you DO have Great release by the CSC today, I was skeptical it would ever happen. Major kudos!
The CSC has released a report providing aggregated rev share & third party NIL payment data by sport, and in the case of 🏈 by position. This gives a decent picture of how much athletes in various sports are being paid (ostensibly for NIL😀). collegesportscommission.org/…

That spring 2024 power grab by the B1G/SEC will continue to skew college sports (and haunt everyone who went along with it out of pure super league fear) for quite a while.
Some news in this story about Playoff expansion. Yormark was very upset Big Ten/SEC/ND leaders ran the negotiations with ESPN, leading to a blowup a few weeks ago. nytimes.com/athletic/7738944…

Not gonna lie... I thought he did a great job with a crappy situation. Big 12 is definitely still relevant and it's in large part due to what he was able to do as commissioner.
Here's the ESPN story on Brett Yormark's decision to leave the Big 12. He's set to take another opportunity in the near future and working with the league for an "elegant exit." From Big 12 Board Chair Doug Girod: "He's been really good for us." espn.com/college-sports/stor…

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said the SEC "put the cart before the horse" in going to a nine-game conference schedule during the 12-team College Football Playoff era. The league is cannibalizing itself like never before, which could create CFP complications on selection day.

We reported a few weeks ago on @CBSSports/@247Sports' College Football Insiders that Ahmad Hardy was eyeing a return for the Arkansas game. The star running back is set to return Saturday.
Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy, who has missed all season to this point while recovering from an offseason gunshot wound, is expected to make his season debut Saturday against Arkansas, sources tell @CBSSports. Returned to practice this week and wasn’t listed on Missouri’s injury report Wednesday night, an indicator of him being set to play this weekend.

Since the SEC’s new TV deal began in 2024, LSU has played 16 of its 19 home games at night (84%). Georgia and Mississippi State? Just 4 of 18 (22%). It gets even worse when you look strictly at SEC conference games. LSU has hosted EIGHT at night. More than Ole Miss and Georgia COMBINED. Mississippi State has hosted ONE. Night games matter for recruiting, atmosphere, attendance and home-field advantage. How does the SEC justify this kind of disparity? And how is it fair to the fans spending thousands on season tickets?
