And the premise of yours made little sense. No EU nation can unilaterally negotiate or sign a trade agreement. Your conclusion is hardly surprising
Replying to @GasPriceWizard
Ok, then your original point is fairly moot.

Adam Chambers nails it: Carney’s own fiscal anchors are already broken, and Long won’t answer the question Chambers (Simcoe North):“The Parliamentary Budget Officer has warned Canadians that the new Finance Minister and Prime Minister won’t even meet their own fiscal targets… the Prime Minister himself refuses to meet the standards he’s imposed… Will the Prime Minister confirm that he himself approved using the credit card to run up the deficit?” Long’s replies with zero engagement with the PBO warning, the broken anchors, or the credit-card deficit question. Just process, slogans, and attacks. Classic tell when the Carney numbers don’t hold Carney set the rules. Chambers is holding him to them. Long’s disappearing-neck deflection is the confirmation @adamchamb @waynelong
How will the credit agencies view the new Prime Minister missing his fiscal targets at the first opportunity?

So @MarkJCarney creates a fake job for his wife. Then allocates outside of the budget $1.2b of your money for her to spend and Liberals block her appearing before the Fisheries and Oceans Committee of Parliament to be accountable.
Things that make you go Hmm! Liberals shut down debate on a motion to have Diana Fox Carney, Mark Carney's wife appear before the Fisheries and Oceans Committee to discuss her appointment as Canada's new "Oceans Envoy" and the $1.2 Billion plus tax dollars she's been given to do it. #cdnpoli This was the motion: That, given the recent appointment of Canada’s Ocean Envoy and Chair of the 12th Our Ocean Conference, and the Government of Canada’s recently announced $1.2 billion investment in ocean protection, the committee invite Canada’s Ocean Envoy to appear for no fewer than two hours, at the earliest opportunity, but no later than Friday, November 27, 2026, to discuss the Envoy’s mandate, priorities, and plans to advance Canada’s ocean conservation and fisheries interests, including preparations for the 2027 Our Ocean Conference, the government’s financial commitments, and the anticipated costs associated with hosting the conference; and that the Ocean Envoy be requested to provide the committee with a copy of the formal mandate, any associated terms of reference, and a breakdown of the anticipated costs of hosting the conference prior to the appearance.

This demonic goblin, @GretaThunberg, a petulant narcissistic idiot, is a stain on our public conscience. She is an affront to all that is decent in a human being.
She just loves getting attention, huh? I have a request for Greta, move to an Islamic country and see how you like it.

Greece won't consider it until Canadian dairy companies and the government of Canada stop allowing cheese that's not feta to be called feta in Canada or produced by Canadian companies for export. It's not the only reason, but it's the same story for all the other holdouts.

Dan do you think the calling of the snap election and Eby’s subsequent defeat can be tied into a potential tariff deal with the US?

Carney had more to gain by ramping up the bogeyman narrative ahead of the by-elections, while also building momentum for the EU associate membership scheme. My suspicion is that he has his sights set on Ursula von der Leyen’s job running the EU in 2029. Their respective terms end around the same time. @JasminLaine laid out a very plausible theory along these lines on her podcast last week.

"By one key measurement, Canada is already “the 51st State” that Donald Trump cruelly and senselessly characterizes as being its future. The World Bank puts the U.S. 2025 GDP per person at $90,250. Canada’s 2025 GDP per person is $55,698. Mississippi, the poorest state in America, sits at $55,877. So Canada’s national average is below the level of all 50 U.S. states. The Economist bluntly quotes Jean Charest, who was premier of Quebec from 2003 to 2012, as believing that “Canadians may one day thank America’s president for shocking them out of a slumber.” The first sign that may be happening came from British Columbia on Saturday. As Charest himself puts it, “Trump is now telling us we have no choice but to change.”" @johnfund

One wonders what Carney intends to give up or why he walked in the first place?
🔥 President Trump is practically STANDING on the Canadian border in Port Huron, Michigan, going after PM Mark Carney "Canada has been making $90 BILLION a year off us for years and years. They've taken advantage of our country, but we're getting close to a deal.” “I love Canada! I love everything about it — other than some of the leaders.”

I'm not a Carney cheerleader (would likely never vote for him unless the Conservatives offered up someone truly horrific) but it's not that hard to transition from negotiating with the EU to negotiating with France, Germany, Italy, etc. on individual basis.

Carney’s “prudent banker” brand is dead. The PBO just showed the books are being cooked Debt-service costs are now the fastest-growing federal expense: $25B five years ago → $59B this year (already larger than the Canada Health Transfer) → $83B in five years. Pure interest, paid before anything else PBO Annette Ryan: the government’s fiscal “anchors” are “more like traffic lights.” Capital spending gets a green light; operating spending is a yellow at best. “Limited fiscal discipline. It’s not stopping spending.” Real cash borrowing over five years: $733B. New debt from deficits: only $333B. The ~$400B gap is being parked with Crown corporations, loans and special funds—“a step removed from parliamentary oversight.” New risks, she said, and less transparency The former Bank of Canada/Bank of England governor who once policed balance sheets is now redefining accounting so the headline targets stay pretty while the actual liability grows off-books. Taxpayers get stuck with the interest bill @PBO_DPB

Mark Carney promised to spend less. Instead, he doubled Trudeau's deficits. Now, interest on Liberal debt will cost a family of 4 about $6,000. On Tuesday, Conservatives will move to call the Prime Minister before the Finance Committee to ask him how he plans to cut deficits, debt interest, and taxes to save Canadians money.

David Coletto at Abacus earning his Liberal polling contracts. Liberal lead up to 16, 48 to 32 over the Conservatives. Of course, he is again oversampling Carney's 60+ base. Despite them representing only about 25% - 26% of the population, they make up over 36% of the sample.
