This is going to really help in all those search and rescue operations that fail because the lost person ran terrified into the forest to get away from their rescuers
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Is there anything more NYC than a Muslim mayor posting Суккот муборак / Sukkot Mubarak inside the most diverse county in America?
This is Bukhori, the language of my people (Central Asian Jews called Bukharian Jews).
A Muslim mayor joining a Bukharian Jewish rabbi to distribute food to needy neighbors, wishing us a happy Sukkot holiday in a Judeo-Tajik Persian rooted language that includes Hebrew and Aramaic with the word Mubarak rooted in Arabic with its sister term to the Hebrew barak.
Diversity is beautiful, and so are these glimmers of Muslim Jewish unity that our community knew for thousands of years and are building once again here in the greatest city on earth.

This argument doesn’t work. Romani people were also targeted in the Final Solution and a primary target alongside Jews for the Holocaust. There has been no Romanistan promised to Romani people. We don’t want it, we do not need it. It’s about colonialism and nationalism not grief
Abdul El-Sayed on Israel-Palestine:
I understand on both sides of this debate, we're also dealing with a lot of trauma. A lot of trauma.
I understand that for a lot of Jewish Americans, there's the trauma of the Holocaust and the need to have a refuge. I understand that.
And I also understand that for a lot of Palestinian Americans and Palestinians everywhere, there's the trauma of the Nakba.
We've got to be able to create the circumstances within which both of these deeply traumatized people can have a conversation built on principle. But to me, the answer has to be principle. It has to be.

Joe Rogan making a better argument for "defund" than half the Jacobin-left.
Joe Rogan: “Just imagine how much less crime there would be if no one was ever starving, no one was ever desperate, no one was ever worried about where their next meal was gonna come from or whether or not they’re gonna have a roof over their head. What if there’s no more poverty? We could’ve already done that. But you would have to get all those rich people that are in charge of industry and running corporations and in government to agree to make the world a better place for everybody”

AOC struggling to make sense of her unqualified support for the House’s most vocal Zionist after his meeting with Trump’s son in law.
Q: Jeffries took a meeting with Jared Kushner, do you think it’s productive for the leader to be making those kind of inroads with the administration?
AOC: Well, I’m not sure Jared Kushner is part of this administration, you know, that’s part of the challenges that we have here. Kushner holds this very bizarre role where he is wielding political influence without a political position and the accountability and public transparency that is required in such a position.
I think that what we really need right now is to focus on our plan for how we’re gonna help people’s lives. I think that what we’d love to see as well with respect to Mr. Kushner is some transparency into his dealings and what he is doing with respect to his conflicts of interest.

No, a plausible adaptive story can be the basis for generating some hypotheses, it doesn't tell you anything about inference. So no such evidence then?

While New York is home to the most American Jews in the nation, we are still such a small group that this only makes up 1 out of 10 New Yorkers.
Half that of Black or Latino New Yorkers, who everyday witness all sorts of agencies and committees almost never being 40% comprised by them. Or even 50% women.
So when American Jews advocate for our community to be reflected in every group, fine, but know that we are more over represented in these groups than our numbers, and that your Black, brown and women friends are watching you skip over them still.
So if you’re not speaking up about structural inequality in our society, it’s hard to witness only speaking up about one committee while being overrepresented by every measure across every other.
Much as we should cherish basic genomic and other scientific data resources, dismaying to see returns of the Human Genome Project retconned as 'economic activity', rather than (yet) health equity as hoped and implicitly promised.
"AlphaFold2 was itself trained on the Protein Data Bank, decades of structural biology made freely available. The Human Genome Project turned $3.8 billion of public investment into something on the order of $800 billion in economic activity. The Cancer Genome Atlas changed how we define cancer: "breast cancer" is no longer one disease but many, each with its own intervention."
If @cmkshama had a walrus mustache, or had dropped out of prep school to repeatedly join corporate wars for 'fun', that'd be enough 'hook' for @ryangrim.
But electing a defiantly accomplished wage-raiser as congress's first *actual* socialist since 1951? Meh, not worth his time.
It's laughable to hear Ryan Grim say he won't cover @cmkshama cz she isn't “serious”, doesn’t have a “hook” & isn’t competitive.
How is this not gate-keeping for Democrats?
Says he covered Zohran when polling 1% cz he had a hook: interviewing Trumpsters in the street. Whereas Sawant’s fight for $15 that kicked off a national movement & her challenge to Adam Smith, who initiated the Isrl-US defense tech merger, isn’t newsworthy?

Two sharp folks.
"Old men who were in charge until the age of Dianne Feinstein and Ruth Ginsburg, they were age limited by mortality. And there were actually ways that older societies had with dealing with cognitive decline in their leaders that we don't. But I think what happened is that we have created a kind of medical miracle that allows a lot these folks not just to stay in office, but at a high level of functioning for much longer than was historically possible." @samuelmoyn

Huh?
What other 'democracy', since pre-1994 South Africa, still expressly bars its own native majority from voting majority, by exile or any other means?
'nOt aPaRthEid'
“He opposes any two-state solution that seeks to preserve a Jewish majority in Israel.”
We must stop acting like this is some neutral or reasonable position. Advocating for the removal of Jewish self-governance is advocating for, at best, the subjugation of Jews as a minority in yet another Arab state, and at worst, our total destruction.
'I lay out my case to @PeterBeinart that forcing white South Africans in 1985 to dissolve their own state would be undemocratic, even if we see that as a "just outcome". But my argument is that it wouldn't be just because it wouldn't be democratic.'
Good grief.
