You might assume that sub-Saharan Africa is building up social trust over time as they develop, but for most African nations social trust has declined in the past decade (from an already-low level of social trust).
Only 4% of Kenyans believe “most people can be trusted”, compared to 50%+ for Northern Europeans. Groups with more social trust are less likely to act corruptly and more likely to behave honestly.
