- A video game called “Space Quest”introduces a fictional currency called Buckazoids
In 1991:
- It appears again in “Space Quest IV”
- With a symbol: ₿
One of the earliest examples of a currency using a symbol similar to Bitcoin inside a video game
In the game:
- Used to buy items and upgrades
- Used to travel between locations
- Used as the main in-game economy

Sierra On-Line was wildly ahead of its time.
In Spring 1981 they dropped Softporn Adventure, the first adult text adventure for the Apple II.
Developed by Chuck Benton and published by On-Line Systems (soon rebranded Sierra On-Line by Ken & Roberta Williams).
Cover photo art was shot in Ken & Roberta’s actual hot tub. Check Roberta Williams on the far right serving pure Playboy Bunny 🐰 energy.
This cheeky game directly inspired Al Lowe to create the Leisure Suit Larry series, turning it into a more humorous PG-13-ish classic. 😂
And get this, 10 years later Sierra dropped $BUCKAZOIDS with the iconic ₿ symbol + 🚀+ 59 in Space Quest IV, a full 19 years before Satoshi’s Bitcoin whitepaper duplicated the “₿”
From hot tub adventures in ’81’ to ₿UCKAZOIDS in ’91’ and then the simulation has the ₿ reappear as the new branding for Bitcoin in 2010.
