This tweet reflects a profound, and very important, misunderstanding by RWers of what happened in 2024. Many people who voted for Trump did so not because they liked Trump but because they disliked Biden and Harris. And many of those same people now dislike Trump because he jacked up gas prices with his war of choice, unilaterally imposed tariffs, and failed to bring down prices as he promised. Totally plausible a meaningful number of those people will vote Dem to express their disapproval of what Trump has done.
Where's the Trump voter who's like "Yeah, I liked Trump but gas is still $4/gallon, so I'm going to vote for Abdulrahman Mohammed El-Sayed."

Remember these people are voting today. It’s important that all of us come out and cancel out whatever it is they want.

The lesson of the Biden presidency and what the midterms will say about Trump-2 is pretty obvious: Never mistake winning an election with an unchecked mandate to indulge the excesses of your base. For Biden, the excesses involved gross violations of cultural norms: His obsessions with open borders, DEI and everything trans plus a huge helping of expensive and expansive government through needless spending that led to inflation, a tax on the working class. For Trump, it’s needless excursions into tariffs (making the Biden-created affordability crisis worse), his belief that the American people wouldn’t lose patience with a drawn out war with Iran (we should have crushed the evil Mullahs months ago and be enjoying a peace dividend), and his belief that he has some magical power over the American people in that he sold the war or his tariffs when he didn’t. Trump’s hubris extended to weird people excursions about ballrooms, reflecting pools and a lot more and people — not his base but most people — are tired of it. Occupancy of the White House doesn’t mean you own it; it’s always for rent

If this guy was t such a Nativists or racist hack he wouldn't be that bad.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis: Some of these Republicans are saying, "Oh, well, the gas, don't worry. It's no big deal." Or they're trying to blame Biden. No, no. Listen, we've just got to be honest. Gas is higher. It hurts people, working-class people, and it's higher because of the Iran conflict. That's just the fact. If you can't admit that to voters, then you're gaslighting them, and they're not going to listen to you on other things.

The Republicans are going to lose because Trump did not crush the Left's infrastructure. He should have went after all their non profits and seize the assets of their donors. He would have banned Tik Tok. If the Democrats were normal liberals I would care, but they are Far Left.

🇺🇸 Ron DeSantis has a message for Republicans brushing off gas prices: stop gaslighting voters. The Florida governor called out members of his own party who are telling people high gas prices are no big deal, or blaming Biden. "Gas is higher. It hurts people, working-class people, and it's higher because of the Iran conflict." If you can't admit that, he said, voters won't trust you on anything else. Rare to see a Republican governor fact-check his own party on Election Day. Writer: Julie

I will admit that one of my biggest frustrations with Trump 2.0 is the complete lack of professionalism and emphasis on showing off for cameras. There is zero reason for Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense. He's is imminently unqualified. Stephen Miller's immigration policies are designed to go viral on social media even at the expense of angering the public.

Day of the Dead: a Nationalist Myth Mexican history doesn’t fit the choice you were handed: Indigenous or Spanish. Day of the Dead is Mexican. It’s mestizo. So why is it constantly presented as a purely pre-Hispanic celebration?

I'll say this. The Woke Right likes to act like this big tough backlash, but every single day I get messages from rock ribbed conservatives telling me how much they hate these jerks on the New Right. The backlash to their fake backlash is going to be something, historic.

I kind of agree. Even as someone who is “moderate” myself, I see the writing on the wall. Just look at the polls within the Democratic Party, and the results are striking. Large majorities support socialism, identify as socialists, and align with the far left on foreign and domestic policy. With Dems 35 and younger, like 70% support DSA. Perhaps the Overton window shifts and the US becomes more tolerant of this sort of politics, but the Dems are trending towards Islamo-leftism like European progressive parties already have.
Abdul El-Sayed represents the dominant, ascendant strain in American left-wing politics, which, while toxic and bound to end poorly, is essentially unstoppable the same way woke was a decade ago. If I had to guess, Haley Stevens, who despite (frankly) being a uniquely bad politician, endorsed Mike Rogers because she realized this, and decided she doesn't want to be one of those who eggs this trend on. At least she'll be able to say she stood up against it when Woke 2 politics inevitably blows up in everyone's faces (hopefully not literally). But also, this says nothing about the future of the Democratic Party, because in endorsing Rogers, she is de facto writing herself out of it, the way Bulwark types wrote themselves out of the GOP a decade ago.

Lot of Democrats today are trying to prove that they are just like Trump. The only difference is Trump is honest about his dishonesty.

I don’t support Trump. But I also won’t vote for DSA members. I reckon many Americans are stuck in the same situation.

There is no such thing as country over party in America anymore. There are a few random people that follow their conscience. The others will always sell out the country for political power if push comes to shove.

The single greatest rebellion by black slaves before Haiti was in Iraq in 869, where the Zanj slaves rose up against their Arab masters and fought the Abbasid Caliphate (the superpower of the era) to a draw for 15 years, before being defeated and massacred to the last man.
"Slavery was universal" typical deflection dressed as honesty. Transatlantic chattel slavery was a distinct system, racialised, capitalist, with children as inheritable property and African life treated as expendable.
