@OliverDowden @DCMS this is us rehearsing back when we were allowed inside back in October. Huge church, fully risk assessed and 2m distancing. We are just asking for the same now please - or at least some clarity why this is no longer possible #singingmatters #ChoirsMatter

#singingmatters is trending in the UK! @OliverDowden what are you going to do about this?

So 10,000 football fans can stand shoulder to shoulder and sing. Yet more than 6 amateur singers in a Covid secure setting is dangerous? Come on
@OliverDowden
@dcms
why this has changed since October?

Yes, it was very windy. Yes I'm behind the pillar. But brilliant to be singing with @sspiritsingers again. If only we could have rehearsed indoors with our stringent safety measures in place. Come on @DCMS, sort it out. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters
Billy Joel- And So It Goes, arr Bob Chilcott. Keeping everything crossed that with enough pressure from amateur choral singers everywhere things will change, we will be allowed to rehearse inside soon, and we are able to perform our concert in July. #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters

Many members of amateur choirs have already received one or two vaccinations.
@OliverDowden don't you trust our NHS and vaccines?

My choirs can not meet in person because they are not paid. I can not conduct in person them though I am paid & this is my livelihood. Why? Where is the science? @PHE_uk @Voicedoctor_uk

2 - Over the last 15 months community music making In the UK has been repeatedly overlooked and undervalued in terms of it's huge benefits to mental health, cultural and economic importance. #ChoirsMatter

#singingmatters @CommonsDCMS 1 Much my professional work is conducting adult amateur choirs and I passionately believe that community music making is a vital part of society. Music exists in some form in all cultures and is a integral part of human existence.

Surely @robhouchen and @BradleyJaden understand that #singingmatters ..community choirs offer safe environments to many who need to sing out loud and proud! Do You Hear The People Sing?

Agree agree agree!
It's utterly nuts and shows a compete lack of understanding - and respect for - how choirs work and why they're important. It's not based on any science is it?

For @DCMS to unilaterally ban choirs from singing in groups of more than six without showing us the reasoning behind their decision is nothing but discrimination.

Returning to meaningful indoor rehearsals is a matter of great importance to the 2.2m amateur singers in choirs in the UK & wouldn’t consider it w/out all steps in place to adhere to safe guidelines #ChoirsMatter #singingmatters @OliverDowden @DCMS @MakingMusic_UK @Mikethetrumpet

Where there's a will, there's a way - the UK clubbing community trialled club nights en masse with no social distancing and no masks bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-5694… and yet choirs are kept apart?

#ChoirsMatter #singingmatters @DCMS @OliverDowden @gmb Please review the @PHE_uk guidelines for singing - this isn’t following the science. 10000 footie fans can stand next to each other and shout/hug/sing but choirs are forbidden to sing indoors with distancing.
