Dad Advice: Rage Rules In the immortal words of Shrek, "Better out than in I always say". We all deal with stuff that makes us mad, sad and frustrated and we all need a coping mechanism for that. Mine is RAGING at video games. Learning to channel and control all the negative is so important to me as a person it's a part of my lore and even my tag line, Your Rage Fuelled Safe Space. I can yell, scream, throw my controller, pound on my desk. BUT I have rules to ensure the venting isn't harmful and that brings me to my Rage Rules: 1. No harming others 2. No damaging other peoples stuff 3. No damaging anything I can't repair/replace 1. No Harming Others This may seem obvious, no taking a swing at someone etc. But it's beyond that, it includes emotional harm as well. If I'm making someone in my household scared or uncomfortable, that's not ok. As such I work hard to make sure my spaces are safe ones. If you've ever been to my streams you know they are very positive and safe. This means when I flip my shit at Ansem annihalating me for an hour straight, people can laugh and don't have to worry. This extends to how I rage. I have had partners with triggers that meant throwing my controller was bad, yelling was bad etc. So I tailored raging at video games so they still knew they were safe. My current partner just thinks it's hilarious and sleeps through it 🤣 2. No Damaging Other People's Stuff Pretty simple, me raging shouldn't be someone elses issue. My stuff is fair game outside of rule 3, but no damaging other people's stuff. 3. No Damaging Anything I Can't Repair/Replace This one is more for my own benefit, but no inconveniencing myself because I got mad. This does mean I stop and think before the controller goes flying, usually it's at the couch and not the ground. I can fly off the handle, but I can't wreck shit to let it out. At this point it's just a PS4 controller stress test, and that thing is PASSING. Love my controller. I'm sure there will be people who say it's unhealthy, you should bottle it up, Men aren't allowed to be mad. I've heard it all before. But this works for me and I'd rather scream at the developers of an unfair fight on stream instead of bottling it up until I snap and do some actual harm. Love - Dad

Dad Rant: Politics With Kiwi elections approaching we had a great chat about politics on Thursday. So here are the TOP 3 things I'd change about NZ politics: TLDR: 1. Upper age limit of voting, you hit retirement age it's time for the kids to have control. 2. Parties reform with no more than 50% of their members every election cycle. No more entrenched ideas. 3. Poitical HR Department. If I have to STFU listening to my ghoul of a CEO encourage emotional manipulation for sales, you who are paid twice the average NZ salary and LEAD THE COUNTRY can resist name calling and cheap shots. The actual breakdown. 1. When you hit retirement age, your voting days are done (for context that means you can vote for nearly half a century). Real talk, I'm a Millenial and mine and the generations after me we are stuck under a generation that REFUSE to retire or carc it to give us a shot at leading anything. While younger generations are proving more accepting of new ideas, the older ones are stuck in their ways. So, you hit retirement age, no more voting. It's time for the younger generations to have control and to try and clean up the mess you've made. You gereatrics are so concerned with preventing younger people from voting you ignore the real harm your voting does. Really passionate about this one. 2. Parties reform with no more than 50% of their members every election cycle. This one is tricky to implement but a major issue in NZ is voting down party lines. The idea of MMP is to mix ideas from multiple parties to find the right path for the country, but that get's crippled by bypartisan voting down party lines. Even if members DON'T agree with the bill, often they have to vote for it. So, every election cycle you HAVE to form a new party with half new people. Time to force the stagnant entrenced ideaology to be watered down by new thinking. Also forces everyone to act civil with each other, you may have to work with some of these people next election cycle. 3. Human Resources. Listen, I know people think it's funny when politicians are mean to each other. When they say what you want to say to them. I had a friend want to vote for one of the oldest most hate filled political leaders because she thought he was funny. THESE ARE ADULTS PAID TWICE WHAT THE AVERAGE KIWI MAKES TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY. You DO NOT get to make that kind of money or have that kind of responsibility and act like children. This makes me GENUINELY ANGRY. They need an actual HR and actual consequences for this behaviour. I don't care if you're the party leader or Prime Minister, you call someone names you get a written warning. Keep it up you lose your job. I can't tell the morons I work with what I think of them without facing HR. I can't tell my ghoul of a CEO who's telling everyone to EMOTIONALLY BLACKMAIL clients into buying things to STFU and that he's a decrepit oxygen thief who makes me regret that medical technology has advanced so far in to keeping him alive. They can't sit there and insult each other, disrupt proceedings and flagrantly ignore the rules without consequences. And that's today's Dad rant.
