If I were asking a board for one basic this week, it'd be decision rights. Who can take a system offline or push an emergency patch without waiting for a meeting. A phrase I heard at the Aviation ISAC summit fits: mean time to authority.

as bad as things have gotten in the past 4 days, they are going to get a lot worse before they get better. security leaders, never let a crisis go to waste: please go to your boards and ask for help right now. not for ai, for the basics. (we need to hold on for ~18 months.)
The vulnerability tsunami is coming in just a few months and there won’t be enough time to patch critical infrastructure. Network isolation described below (air-gaps and data diodes!) needed now!

Texas was built by hope. By people who had no business believing — but believed anyway. To every Texan who’s ever wondered if anyone in power is paying attention: We are taking our state back. Because a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.

🇺🇦 Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States: “Just give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it. But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people? I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.” Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.

This is a rough September inflation report. -Biggest monthly jump since May -Higher than expected inflation AND core inflation -Core Inflation for the past 3 months is running at well over a 3% annualized pace...that's problematic -Inflation (3.7%) totally wiping out wage gains (3%) Yes, high gas and diesel prices are the major driver, but also big jumps in airfares, used car prices, recreation, medical and apparel. The energy shock is spreading.

Trump proffered sanctions relief for Russian diesel fuel, called on Ukraine to oust its leader and pressured Kyiv to stop striking Russian oil facilities. Putin, in return, offered more war. @PaulSonne nytimes.com/2026/10/13/world…

Elon immediately suspended this account that showed Nick Sortor’s recorded call to the mental health facility was AI generated and is preventing community notes on the Sortor post. It’s all hands on deck trying to make the fake Talarico story stick

Trumps unnecessary war with Iran is the cause of higher diesel and gas prices in the US, not Ukraine. Trump blaming Zelenskyy is both empirically wrong and morally disgusting.

We need way more diesel than what they're offering and what they're offering they cannot satisfy. That seems to be a consensus view among energy experts. So Russia gets immediate sanctions relief while gas prices remain more or less the same. If I were a cynic I might conclude this is a sneaky attempt at rapprochement with Moscow couched in the language of affordability, with a decisive election less than a month away. All it does in the short term is provide more money for Russia to wage war on Ukraine.

Another way to think about Trump announcement today: If he increased US diesel imports from Canada by 4%, he would gain as much fuel as from this Russia deal. But the Canadians are global super-villains, so who wants to buy from them when you could enrich Putin instead?

I'm sensing revulsion on the left and right, not so much for killing a death row prisoner - although firing squad seems extreme in the modern age - but for the Pentagon to live-stream it, turning this into a horrifying TV show to entertain the masses. Is this America?

Bill Clinton: "Some days I can hardly believe what is happening in this country that I love so much. People in charge have created one set of rules for themselves and another set for everyone else. They've weaponized government to settle personal scores, prosecute enemies, stamp out free speech. They've even made the federal government a new profit centre for themselves and their allies."

President Trump on Sunday called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian refineries, saying the attacks are causing a shortage of diesel.
