On May 14th 2026 Xi Jinping, president of China, met with trump and famously brought up the concept of the Thucydides Trap. But what is this trap and why was it such a surprising moment in world history? Why did it make the news?

Everyone is going on about Jeffries and Schumer, and rightly so, but I seriously don't think enough people are calling out Elizabeth Warren as well.
She is set to lead the Senate banking committee. Which has massive influence in the American economy and global financial systems
Translation:
Nothing will fundamentally change under Schumer.
NEW: Chuck Schumer is preparing to lead the Senate with a network of former aides lobbying for private equity—including two former policy chiefs and his top health adviser. Their clients include Blackstone, Apollo, and the industry’s top trade group. readsludge.com/2026/11/06/th…
Something tells me this is connected to the reason they injected a bunch of oil onto the world stage once the Iran war kicked off.
It prolly wasn't just to be a good global Samaritan.
"cyberattack"
#BREAKING: French bank Credit Mutuel Arkea says €100 million is missing after a cyberattack.
"when the US sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold."
Whether or not this was actually historically accurate is irrelevant. The fact that this saying exists is enough of an argument for a multi-polar world.
BREAKING: Asia now has 4 major stock markets in bear markets, after Japan and Taiwan joined today.
🇰🇷 South Korea: −45% from its June record
🇨🇳 China’s Shenzhen: −30% from its June high
🇹🇼 Taiwan: −24% from its October record
🇯🇵 Japan: −21% from its June record
Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have lost over $900,000,000,000 this morning.
AI giants TSMC, SK Hynix and SoftBank are all down around 10%.
It follows US chip stocks’ 2nd worst day on record.
Finally.
I think we are moving onto the next phase of the AI bubble popping.
It's always amusing to me how capitalists have exaggerated knee-jerk reactions to even the slightest change in their portfolios.
And my god is it fun to watch under these circumstances.
Banks are starting to run from AI data center debt.
ING has put about $500 million of data center loans up for sale all at once, Bloomberg reports.
That's 12 loans, including a $25 million piece of OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle's Stargate site in New Mexico.
Banks are the ones closest to these projects. They see the contracts, the power deals and the delays before anyone else.
And at Stargate, the warning signs are already there.
Oracle has sent the developer a force majeure notice, a legal step that can excuse it from its obligations if events beyond its control get in the way.
Now the market is turning too.
Yesterday, the S&P 500 lost $3 trillion in a single day as fears grew that Democrats will go after AI and data centers. Junk bonds tied to data center companies like CoreWeave were among the hardest hit.
The whole AI buildout runs on borrowed money.
Big Tech has raised $326 billion in debt and new shares this year alone to keep it going.
If the lenders are heading for the exit, who'll fund the AI build up?
The bigger news here I'm observing is that we are finally starting to see the symptoms of people losing faith in institutions manifest.
We need more of this. Lots more of this.
