Pleased to announce that I've been awarded an Infectious Disease Society of America GERM fellowship with @Fritz_Albarillo! We are gearing up to study a cool phenomenon in pneumococcus. Thank you, @IDSAInfo, @UlijaszLab, @LoyolaMiim and @LoyolaMDPhD for the support! #IDtwitter

New work from postdoc, Simon Underhill, in my former @CabeenLab. Check it out!
New in JB: P aeruginosa is not E. coli--it loves its tricarboxylates! New work by Underhill and Cabeen identifies several putative transporters for citrate and cis-aconitate. doi.org/10.1128/jb.00284-22 @ASMicrobiology @JBacteriology

Wish I could have been there!! Miss you guys and so happy our story is still being told!
Thrilled that @UlijaszLab hosted my former research mentor, Matt Cabeen @CabeenLab, at Loyola to share our (me and @ScienceyNina's) story about bacterial warfare and its clinical utility. A great time that was topped off with warm Gluhwein at Christkindlmarket! @osumicrobiology

Graduated our lab's first master's student at Oklahoma State University tonight. She successfully defended her thesis a few weeks ago, and walked across the stage tonight. Congratulations Ashlee Hawkins, MS! 🎉🎉

What's your favorite quick-and-dirty lab technique that still works for you? I make E. coli electrocompetent cells straight from plate streakouts (no pre-culture in liquid) 😱 at room temperature 😱 with just water (no glycerol) 😱. Success rate >90%, don't @ me
