Update: I got a distinction 🤓🤯
Replying to @HolstaT
I just finished a graduate diploma in law at City University. In the last three weeks I’ve done seven 24-hour exams, in each of which I wrote 4,500 words of legal analysis. I finished each exam a few hours early to go to work, so it came to 31,500 words in less than six days.

I'm currently reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and anytime I have it out in public someone comes up to me and tells me it's their favorite book. These people span all ages, genders, and vibes. What the hell is going on? The book is like...fine

THAT BEING SAID I'm only up to season 3 on the rewatch, so doubtless I'll have more thoughts on that down the line (please just mute me)

Oh, and finally, it's time to cut Xander a *bit* of slack. I hated him through the late 2010s and early 2020s too, but he was so young — and consistently really brave when it came down to the wire, despite being the least gifted of everyone. Also, his home life sounded appalling.

Don't like it, sorry! Esp the flip "instinct tells me that gambling wrecks a lot more lives than Sydney Sweeney." The debate around Sydney Sweeney isn't distinct from gambling when she is advertising a betting company that she is an equity partner in!

It is also telling that U.S.-based commentators were, broadly speaking, far more sensitive to the eugenics uproar around SS's "good jeans" ad. It is relevant that Trump loves her! It is relevant that these ads are coming out against the backdrop of a fascist, corrupt government!

"the words 'The North Remembers' are hurtful to a lot of the people I've spoken to, as is the implication that the Lannisters are in any way implicated in the Red Wedding. I don't take sides."

I wrote about why all the wellness-obsessed super-rich bros are so lame! "When immortality, or even just some nebulous sense of physical “optimisation” feels within touching distance, the little things both cease to matter and matter a great deal" thenewworld.substack.com/p/w…

"Wellness" offers an illusion of control you can buy with money. Those who confuse it with health are therefore led to believe that health outcomes are decided by a merit system that's linked to their identity as a successful/rich person. "I am better, so I am better."

This is compounded by the fact that these guys have *nothing* else to worry about. So they're hyperfocused on signs their "investments" are paying off. Tl;dr — For the super wealthy, there’s little to fear but death. So that fear consumes their days. thenewworld.substack.com/p/w…

I get why athletes are outraged by Sydney Sweeney's sports betting ad, but I fear this may be the point. The furore is a neat cover for what it's actually selling (gambling) & to whom (young men and boys, who are esp vulnerable to gambling, the deadliest addiction there is)

Trump has lamented that “the whole world unfortunately has become somewhat of a casino," and claimed he was "never in favour of it." But the Trump family has invested heavily in prediction markets, and the administration is pushing to advance federal control of regulation.

Tl;dr This ad isn't just bad for women in sports. Novig is capitalising on Trump's willingness to put young men and boys in harm's way. Sydney Sweeney is a sleight of hand.
