Noah Shack: Israeli election is Canada’s opportunity for a reset nationalpost.com/opinion/isr…

"Consistency is essential if Canada wants to be a credible and effective partner in advancing peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike. A functioning bilateral relationship gives the Canadian government access to Israeli decisionmakers and a direct channel to raise difficult questions.
By not engaging Israel’s next government, Canada would risk surrendering influence over decisions that directly affect regional peace and security. It also risks undermining its own efforts to support the institutions and conditions necessary for Palestinian statehood. Any future Palestinian state must be viable, accountable and capable of delivering stability, rather than becoming another failed state or terrorist state in the Middle East.
Against this backdrop, the lack of accountability following Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s reported agreement with Islamic Jihad and Hamas to postpone general elections is particularly concerning. If Palestinian leaders face no meaningful consequences for abandoning their commitments, what incentive do they have to implement the reforms Canada itself considers essential to lasting peace and stability?"—Noah Shack @nshack @CIJAinfo
“Ever closer”
🚨 BREAKING: EU countries have dropped the idea of offering Canada "associate member" status in the 27-member bloc, opting instead for softer language promising "ever closer association," according to a draft statement, seen by POLITICO.

Eight years ago today, we suffered the deadliest act of antisemitism in American history when a killer entered Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh while people prayed and murdered 11 of our neighbors.
It’s been 2,922 days since the attack, but the pain still lingers in our Commonwealth. Today we offer prayers of comfort to those touched by this violence.
Let today be a moment for action, remembrance, and resolve to combat antisemitism in all forms.
May the memories of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger forever be a blessing.

The Senators spent real capital, money, and subsequent roster moves to make Sam Ersson the backup goaltender.
The fact that 12 games in, he’s not the defacto backup is a fascinating development.

Good to see Canadian media coverage of the threat Iran’s Islamic regime poses to the UK and the West.

This is what those losers held up at the hockey game. Ban them from all NHL rinks.
Unfortunate decisions by some governments that have had the opposite effect of what was intended.

If you aren’t paying attention to B.C politics you should. Historic things are happening over there. The province has become the frontline for a lot of the issues Canadians are debating:
- An unprecedented miscalculation from NDP premier David Eby who called an election two years early over political opportunism- reaching to make a race about Trump. He wound up losing government, and his leadership.
- A repudiation of progressive policies on crime/substance abuse.
- An expression of unease towards how Indigenous land claims and property rights are being handled there.
- An incoming premier in Lorne Doerkson who has only been Con interim leader for 35 days, following an unexpected call while he was vacationing in Africa. Thrust into the role after Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s (the just elected Con party leader) epic flame out.
Following major celebrations, Conservatives should think long and hard about whether the “true blue” candidates they elect at convention are capable of winning general elections/the broader appeal of average voters. I think this was a case of the revenge of conservative normies.
It’s the province’s first Conservative government in nearly a century.

Our Statement Regarding the Arrest Made Following Antisemitic Incident Near Student Housing in London
Joint Statement by CIJA and London Jewish Federation:
Targeting the homes of Jewish students outside Western University with a Nazi swastika was not only an act of antisemitism, but also an attack on the inclusive, democratic values that all Canadians share.
We are proud of the students who responded with solidarity and defiance, affirming their Jewish identity and promptly engaging authorities.
We commend London Police for swiftly arresting and charging the perpetrator with a hate-motivated offence under the Combatting Hate Act, important legislation our community helped advance.
But enforcement must be consistent nationwide and extremism must be stopped before it takes root.
We call on Minister @SeanFraserMP to urgently convene provincial and territorial Attorneys General and Public Safety Ministers to coordinate enforcement of existing and new hate laws. And we urge authorities at all levels to confront the radicalization spreading across our campuses and throughout the country, where antisemitic libels and conspiracies about Jews and Israelis fuel hatred, violence and even terrorism.
Our organizations stand with the Jewish students targeted by this act of hate and remain committed to a Canada where everyone can live safely and express their identity without fear.
