This Halloween, the trick is in the treat.
"The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for candy and chewing gum for September 2026 was 7.7% higher than a year ago, more than double the overall CPI increase." ntu.org/publications/detail/…
I, for one, am proud to live in a country where a ham sandwich is safe from prosecution.
DOJ sought an indictment against Cassidy Hutchinson for her Jan. 6 testimony but the grand jury refused to indict, WaPo reports. Gift link: wapo.st/4yPWbRx
As permanent as writing on the beach.
When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, “AI/Artificial Intelligence,” in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Classic example of "capitalism" blamed for a government failure to permit enough housing.
Sigh.
I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time.
We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s.
We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN.
For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee.
In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it.
Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further.

A big boost to efforts to build a pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia, which will help wean Canada off U.S. dependence.
BC cons also plan to up energy production in province itself.
This makes sense when you remember what LAUSD's focus is on.
Math is hard for the LAUSD.
"Enrollment declined from 440,365 to 369,830 students, a decrease of about 16%. Over the same period, the total of 'full-time-equivalent' jobs increased from 60,344 to 64,148, or about 6.3%"

100%.
Many of the justifications Musk has made about Ukraine is that he wants to stop the killing - and there's the risk of Russian nukes, etc.
All of that would be true in an India-Pakistan or India-China conflict.
Classic game theory is that you can screw over partners *one* time - and then everyone adjusts (and is worse off).
Peace in our time is at hand (and a piece of the action).
Seems like Hillary in 2016. The polls showed a close race (she did win the popular vote), but experts couldn't believe Trump had a real chance.
This time prediction markets couldn't believe Lula would win after Bolansaro won round 1, even though that edge-and polls-were tight.
Wut?
New: Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General.
The US has encouraged Orbán to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea of a joint U.S.-Russia-China candidacy.

I'm waiting to be proven wrong, but I'm starting to suspect that restoration of Starlin (and intel sharing) came at the price of strikes on Russian refineries, saving Putin's energy economy and taking away one of Ukraine's most effective retaliatory strategies.
Elon Musk saying what many are saying. Many neoclouds are in trouble while investment grade SpaceX can borrow more easily and cheaply than, say, $CRWV.
Ofc., certainly in Musk's interest to hype up rivals' woes.
Also, if AI financing implodes, nobody wins. 1/
Replying to @chamath
Pretty much.
As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.
SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.
That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.
We're starting to see Nvidia credit default swaps show growing risk. Nothing like $CRWV, but if the Bank of Nvidia starts to look iffy... 2/2
It's the same pretty much everywhere with rent controls. A story from Berlin:
True in Spain too. Every landlord in Madrid and Barcelona screens the renters now. This is an obvious consequence of rent control. The most vulnerable, ostensible protected by the legislation, are in fact excluded from the rental market: if you cannot be evicted for non payment, then you are too risky a renter.
