Good morning. Just an outstanding little paper trying to answer a question as old as time: how much farting is too much? jamanetwork.com/journals/jam… Well, now we know.

This week is exactly why I love evidence based medicine. A splashy JAMA AKI trial <jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…> shows a huge effect size (RR 0.54) and a p value < 0.001. But the results were driven by preventing oliguria and had no effect on creatinine driven AKI, dialysis, shortened length of stay, or mortality. And in another trial, ZEUS, ziltivekimab was unable to reduce CV endpoints despite effectively blocking IL-6. P-value of 0.9 <globenewswire.com/news-relea…>. This study shakes the foundations of a major hypothesis regarding the relationship of atherosclerosis and inflammation. I love that the well done, convincingly negative trial will have more impact than the sloppy positive trial.

One of my missions is to make Peripheral Neuropathies more understandable for non-experts. Recognizing that physicians often find PNs challenging, especially in the hospital setting, I collaborated with @MayoClinicNeuro Neuromuscular hospitalists, @ReeceHass and @SantilliAshley, and my former NM co-fellow #JMartinezThompson to develop an engaging infographic that simplifies how to approach neuropathies leading to hospitalization. The incredible artistic skills and creativity of @ReeceHass truly brought this project to life, exceeding all expectations. We hope you find this helpful. neurology.org/doi/pdf/10.121…

This is a great talk on how to speak that more or less also summarizes “how to teach” #MedEd
In 2019, MIT professor Patrick Winston gave a legendary 1-hour lecture called “How to Speak.” It has 18M+ views for a reason. His frameworks: • Your ideas are like your children • The 5-minute rule for job talks • Why jokes fail at the start 15 lessons on communication:

🧵 The Cardiac Function Curve — why it misleads (Part 1) 1/ The cardiac function curve is one of the most recognisable images in physiology. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most misdrawn, mislabelled, and misunderstood. Let’s redraw it — and see what it really tells us about the circulation. #MedX #FOAMed #physiology

1️⃣ Some patients with severe venous congestion have almost no oedema — and that’s confusing at first. It only starts to make sense once you unpack the physiology. 👇
