"When the same Father Anthony meditated on the depth of the judgment of God, he asked, “Lord, how is it that some die when they are young, while others drag on to extreme old age? And why are some poor and others rich? Why do wicked people prosper and why are the just in need? He heard a voice answering him, “Anthony, keep your attention on yourself; these things are according to the judgment of God, and it is not to your benefit to know anything about them." – from the Sayings of the Desert Fathers. Today, 17 January, is the feast of the Father of Monasticism, St Anthony of Egypt.

"The family is called to welcome, radiate and show the world the love and presence of Christ.” - Pope Benedict XIV

The Jubilee reminds us that we can start anew, indeed, that we are still at the beginning and that the Lord wants his presence to grow among us as God-with-us. Thus, dear brothers and sisters, it is wonderful to become pilgrims of hope. It is wonderful for us to continue to be pilgrims together! The faithfulness of God continues to amaze us.

Pope Leo at New Year's Mass:
"At the dawn of the new year, the Liturgy reminds us that for each of us, every day can be the beginning of a new life, thanks to God’s generous love, his mercy and the response of our freedom. It is beautiful to view the coming year in this way: as an open journey to be discovered. Indeed, through grace, we can venture forth on this journey with confidence – free and bearers of freedom, forgiven and bringers of forgiveness, trusting in the closeness and goodness of the Lord who accompanies us always."

This evening, we will sing the Te Deum in thanksgiving for the many gifts we have received from God throughout the year. We are also invited to reflect on how we, in turn, have responded, and to ask for God’s mercy, like the many pilgrims who have passed through the Holy Door in search of forgiveness.

Catholic social teaching isn’t just a set of ideas, but a way of living the Gospel in the modern world. From Pope Leo XIII to Pope Leo XIV, it offers a consistent vision for human dignity and the common good.
I spoke about this in a recent webinar with @InstituteCC now covered by @AleteiaEN. I invite you to give it a read.

Truth, Goodness, Beauty, and Unity. These are not just abstract concepts but the very foundation of a truly Catholic education. Together, these transcendentals shape our minds, hearts, and souls, leading us closer to the fullness of life in Jesus Christ. lincolndiocese.org/joyandwon…

We just received a little booklet from these folks talking about their lectures and course offerings.
Along with many about purely eschatological matters and Catholic theology such as "Understanding the Parables of Christ" and "The Eucharist in the Garden of Eden", they offer courses looking at other issues through a Catholic lens.
Some examples:
"Shakespeare on Mercy and Justice"
"Traditional Logic: A Practicum in Classical Reasoning"
"Conquering the Barbarians: The Formation of the Latin West"
"Sherlock Holmes: A Christian Gentleman"
"The Sacred Music of Advent and Christmas"
It looks like it's worth checking out.
By the time of her broadest extent, Rome had spread her language and laws to most of the peoples of Western Europe, thereby laying the foundation for Latin Christendom in the next centuries. Join Dr. Pepino to explore this critical period of Roman history:
