Anton Myrer was born on this day in 1922. A United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he is the author of ONCE AN EAGLE, a book I gave to leaders in the SEAL Teams as they began their service in the profession of arms. You may also have noticed James Reece gift a copy to Ben Edwards in DARK WOLF.
Of the many valuable lessons from the pages of this poignant and timeless novel, this line rings particularly true: “You can’t help what you were born and you may not have much to say about where you die, but you can and you should try to pass the days in between as a good man.”

Don’t empathize with Anakin.
Identify with Aragorn.
He’s the ultimate anti-doomer.
When all seemed lost, Aragorn still acted out of principle & not self-interest.
He didn’t change his actions based on feelings or probabilities.
He didn’t harbor vengeance.
He had a duty, and he risked life and love to fulfill it (saving both in the process).

Little man syndrome; Abdul has no idea what he's talking about. Proud to say, as Pete's dad, he was an absolute star on the court in HS. Captain, all-conference, all-state player...earned! We parents cheered him on, yes. That's what families do-support each other. #Envy makes him bitter.

In 1952, a Marine lieutenant bought a small Mongolian mare from a young Korean stable boy for $250. The boy sold her because he needed money to buy an artificial leg for his sister.
The Marines named her Reckless, after their recoilless rifle platoon.
Her job was to carry heavy ammunition up steep hills to the guns. The Marines trained her to step over barbed wire, lie down under fire, and run into a bunker when shells started falling.
She learned fast. She also learned to eat everything: scrambled eggs, pancakes, Coca-Cola, beer, chocolate bars, and once, reportedly, a pile of poker chips.
In March 1953, during the Battle for Outpost Vegas, Reckless proved what she was made of.
In a single day, she made 51 trips up and down the mountain, mostly alone, carrying thousands of pounds of shells through enemy artillery fire. On the way back down, she often carried wounded Marines.
She was hit by shrapnel twice. She kept going.
The Marines promoted her to sergeant, then staff sergeant. She was awarded two Purple Hearts.
After the war, she came to America, lived at Camp Pendleton, and had foals of her own.
Life magazine named her one of America's 100 greatest heroes, alongside people like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Why don't we get a blockbuster film about Lepanto? It's a story about a king's bastard half-brother with zero naval experience. He has to put together a ramshackle alliance, and then a rag-tag fleet to defeat the biggest, most experienced, and most powerful navy of the day.
Lepanto is one of the longest Hail Marys in history. It's almost impossible to simulate in a wargame, because the Turks always win unless you instigate specific rules for the Christians to cheat their way to victory.
In a film version, you also get to have the character of Cervantes and a heartwarming bit when thousands of Christian slaves are freed at the end. It's amazing. I suppose it would be super-expensive with all the ships, but I'd assume decent and appropriate use of CGI. Until then I guess we'll only have G. K. Chesterton's poem Lepanto, which I recommend highly.

⟁ ILLUMINATI FIELD DOSSIER ⟁
SUBJECT: CASSANDRA EKATERINA SOKOLOVA
KNOWN AS: CASSIE
AFFILIATION: ILLUMINATI - THE PYRAMID
CLASSIFICATION: NATURAL-BORN BEE
ANIMA: TEAL / NATIVE INTEGRATION
STATUS: ACTIVE
THREAT LEVEL: EXTREME
HANDLING: READ BEFORE ACTING.
ORIGIN
Daughter of Cassiopeia Winston and Dmitri Sokolov, both Gaia-chosen Bees. Cassandra was born with her anima, rather than awakened to it. The Fishbowl followed: scientific enthusiasm, mountains of paperwork, and lessons in parental consent.
The Eye was permitted to observe. It was not permitted to own.
Some personnel required reminders.
TRAINING & CAPABILITIES
Formal training began at six. Her education was not improvised after an unexpected awakening; it was built into her upbringing, first under grandfather Luka Sokolov, then her father and honorary uncles.
Weapons, tactics, fieldcraft, threat recognition, improvisation. Subject has been taught not merely how to use a weapon, but how to recognize one in virtually anything.
Her question, “what else can it be for?” should concern anyone near an unsecured object.
She is not a novice with extraordinary powers. She is a trained operative who happens to have been extraordinary since birth.
SECURITY HISTORY
Orochi identified subject as a high-value acquisition target. Attempts to exploit her youth and family circumstances were unsuccessful.
Their assessment of the Sokolov household as an easy target remains a cautionary example of catastrophic research failure.
Further attempts are not recommended.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE
Intelligent. Curious. Observant. Resourceful. Stubborn. Protective to a degree that complicates otherwise tidy operational calculations.
Subject understands chain of command, security protocols, and tactical discipline. Questioning orders is not inability to follow them.
She knows the rules.
She would simply like to know whether the person issuing them has thought things through.
KNOWN ASSOCIATES
JERICHO “IWOJIMA” BLAKE: Senior Illuminati agent; trusted field partner and romantic interest. Operational effectiveness: exceptional. Tolerance for nonsense: limited.
FLYNN: Melanistic Papillon. Tactical Assault Papillon™️. Has transported questionable objects as though they were mission-critical evidence.
NOX: Raven. Surveillance capabilities appreciated. Cooperation not guaranteed.
CAERBANNOG: Rabbit. Teeth noted. Ego unquantifiable. Please stop submitting incident reports under “dragon.”
FIELD OBSERVATIONS
Solomon Island demonstrates investigative aptitude and a willingness to follow evidence where sensible people would evacuate.
She has a habit of treating people in danger as people first and operational variables second.
This has occasionally complicated mission planning.
It has also saved lives.
FINAL ASSESSMENT
Cassandra Sokolova is not an Illuminati experiment, a recoverable corporate asset, or an inexperienced Bee requiring someone to explain the Secret World to her.
She grew up in it. She was trained for it. She knows precisely how ugly it can become.
RECOMMENDATION: Retain. Respect boundaries. Support field operations. Do not antagonize her family.
And under no circumstances attempt to confiscate the rabbit without a written contingency plan.
⟁ THE EYE SEES ALL.
It has been watching Cassandra since birth.
It still occasionally misunderstands what it sees.

⟁ ILLUMINATI FIELD DOSSIER ⟁
SUBJECT: JERICHO BLAKE
CALL SIGN: "IwoJima"
DESIGNATION: SENIOR OPERATIVE
CLASSIFICATION: BEE / HUMAN ASSET
AFFILIATION: THE ILLUMINATI
STATUS: ACTIVE
THREAT ASSESSMENT: SEVERE
LOYALTY: ESTABLISHED
PERSONNEL FILE: RESTRICTED
OVERVIEW
Some men require elaborate explanations of why they should be feared.
Jericho Blake is not one of them.
Forty-eight. Former United States Marine. Senior Illuminati agent. Corporate-security consultant.
The most dangerous man in a room is rarely the loudest. Blake knows when to wait - and when diplomacy is finished.
He does not confuse restraint with hesitation.
Neither should you.
OPERATIONAL PROFILE
The Secret World has done little to diminish his military pragmatism.
A Bee. An operative. A professional.
"IwoJima": a military call sign with a reputation best left untested.
Blake understands the difference between possessing power and knowing when to employ it.
Judgment, discretion, and little patience for theatrics make him invaluable.
When it doesn't, alternative arrangements are made.
Intelligence recommends letting him make them.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT
Controlled. Observant. Independent.
He understands responsibility, consequence, and unpleasant decisions.
Not without humor, although observers sometimes struggle to determine whether a joke has occurred.
A father of two, Blake has a complicated personal history, including a failed engagement.
Apparently, this has not discouraged further emotional attachment.
Quite the opposite.
PERSONAL ASSOCIATIONS
SOKOLOVA, CASSANDRA.
Illuminati operative.
Relationship classification: ROMANTIC.
This has generated commentary from personnel who should be working.
Subject's professional competence remains intact. His tolerance for unsolicited opinions regarding Miss Sokolova should not be experimentally evaluated.
Historical note: Dmitri Sokolov reportedly regarded Blake as a safe, boring businessman.
Intelligence considers this a spectacular failure of threat recognition.
KNOWN VULNERABILITIES
Intimidation: Ineffective.
Coercion: Poor prospects.
Psychological manipulation: Strong resistance.
Cassandra Sokolova: Significant emotional attachment confirmed.
This does not mean he can be controlled through her.
Anyone mistaking affection for weakness should reconsider.
Preferably before testing the hypothesis.
INTERNAL INTELLIGENCE COMMENTARY
Blake has survived military service, Illuminati operations, supernatural hostilities, corporate security, fatherhood, and at least one engagement.
Clearly, he knows how to navigate danger.
He is now romantically involved with Cassandra Sokolova.
Intelligence declines to speculate whether this represents extraordinary confidence, questionable self-preservation, or two stubborn individuals encountering one another.
For the record, he remains a highly valued senior operative.
His private affairs are his own.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the paperwork.
FINAL DIRECTIVE
Respect his experience. Trust his judgment. Do not mistake composure for complacency.
And for the love of the Eye, stop calling him Cassandra Sokolova's safe, boring businessman.
He has heard you.
⟁ THE EYE SEES. THE EYE KNOWS. ⟁

This man is a hero.
Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian captain of flydubai Flight 1073, fought back after being stabbed in the cockpit.
Despite being severely injured, he managed to unlock the cockpit door - allowing Israeli passengers and the Emirati crew to intervene and save all the passengers.
Together, their extraordinary courage saved 174 lives.
Indian. Israeli. Emirati.
Different nationalities. One extraordinary act of courage. 🇮🇳🇮🇱🇦🇪

US Marine Dakota Meyer was born and raised in Columbia, Kentucky, hunting, fishing, and playing football before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 2006.
He became one of the youngest school trained snipers in the Corps at 19, deployed to Iraq in 2007, and then deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 as a 21-year-old corporal with an embedded training team advising Afghan forces. He was never the type to sit still when his brothers were in trouble.
On September 8, 2009, near the village of Ganjgal in Kunar Province, a patrol walking into a meeting with village elders was hit by more than 60 Taliban fighters firing from the ridgelines. Four of Meyer’s teammates, three Marines and a Navy corpsman, were cut off.
Denied permission to go in, Meyer went anyway. Over roughly 6 hours he made repeated runs into the ambush in a gun truck, manning the machine gun in the exposed turret, killing enemy fighters at point blank range, pulling wounded Afghan soldiers to safety, and covering the withdrawal of others. He is credited with saving 36 lives that day.
When he finally reached the four missing Americans on foot, they were already dead and stripped of their gear. As he moved to recover their bodies, a Taliban fighter jumped him, and they fought on the ground. Meyer grabbed a baseball sized rock and beat the man to death. Then, with Afghan soldiers helping, he carried his friends out so they would not be left behind. These brutal details don't often show up in citations.
President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor in 2011, the first living Marine to receive it in nearly four decades. Meyer has always said the medal belongs to the men who did not come home. After leaving active duty he wrote, advocated for veterans, and in 2025 reenlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve and became a Reconnaissance Marine.
Kentucky farm kid, sniper, Medal of Honor recipient, father. Always a Marine.

Oliver Stone — this day, 1946
Born September 15, 1946.
He didn’t wait for the draft. In April 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and asked for combat.
He landed in Vietnam around September 16, 1967 — one day after his 21st birthday — with 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, operating near the Cambodian border. Later he transferred to a 1st Cavalry long-range reconnaissance unit.
Wounded twice. Bronze Star with “V” device. Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. Combat Infantryman Badge.
Fifteen months. Then home.
Those months became Platoon.
Whatever you think of the films that followed, the record of the soldier is not in dispute: he volunteered, he fought, he bled, he came home with the awards the Army gives men who did the job under fire.
Happy birthday to a combat veteran.

- First comedy and satire was targeted. The elements that keep a society largely in check.
- Next was masculinity. Men were shamed as “toxic” for being manly.
- Then it was women who complain, and they were labeled “Karens.”
So if appropriate mockery is out, the most ridiculous concepts actually see the light of day.
If men aren’t permitted to defend what they know they should, the most harmful and dangerous concepts see the light of day.
And when older women are shamed for speak against what they see as wrong, the most outrageous behavior sees the light of day.
Comedy, satire, mockery, masculinity, and female wisdom. Restore it all now.

I often criticized Lindsey Graham. But this weekend, I learned his full story:
- Orphaned young, he adopted & raised his little sister instead of letting her go into the system.
- Grew up dirt poor, racking balls in his parents’ pool hall.
- In search of opportunity, he joined the Air Force. Served 33 years. Retired a Colonel.
- Then spent decades in Congress, earning respect across the aisle.
- Bashed Trump hard in ~2016, then respected the will of the voters, and grew to become a loyal ally.
- Humble. Devoted to his constituents.
- Driven by patriotism (even when misguided). Never in it for the money. Could've cashed in any time like most of his colleagues.
- That Disney trip everyone mocked? Just a good uncle taking his beloved nieces. He smiled through (and ignored) the hate to protect his family.
RIP to a self-made American original.
