Joshua Michael found an access token on Flock's public website.
No login required. No authentication. Just sitting there.
He downloaded Flock's entire database. 300,000 device locations. 170,000 cameras. 130,000 other hardware units. 27,000 acoustic detectors.
Made a map. Published it September 23.
The Senate held a hearing on Flock the same day. Cited Michael's research.
Flock panicked.
Sent a cease-and-desist. Used a brand-protection vendor called Doppel to claim trademark infringement.
The map said it wasn't affiliated with Flock. Doppel didn't care.
Michael's site went dark.
Then Proton moved it to Swiss servers.
Now it lives on protonmcp.org. Untouchable. Uncensorable. Hosted by an encryption company in a country that doesn't care what Flock wants.
The irony is crystalline.
Flock left an access token on the internet. Michael used it to download their own data. Published it. Flock tried to suppress it.
Proton said suppressing it is suppressing information.
Which is true.
The map shows Flock has 150,000 more cameras than they publicly claimed.
Shows acoustic detection units mapping human speech across the country.
Shows which police departments have access to the whole network.
Flock doesn't want that visible.
So they tried trademark infringement.
Which only worked until Proton decided transparency matters more than Flock's feelings.
Now everyone can see exactly how many cameras are watching their car. Where they are. Which cops can see them.
Michael warned Flock about the exposed token in November 2025.
Flock ignored him.
Then got mad when he used it.
The surveillance company that claims to protect privacy just tried to suppress the only map showing how much they actually surveille.
And failed.
‼️ Proton is hosting a map of 300,000+ Flock surveillance device locations that Flock tried to get taken down.
Researcher Joshua Michael says he pulled them from Flock's own systems via a token left open to anyone.
Proton calls the takedown "an attempt to suppress information."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know

Symbolism matters.
“It’s just an Easter Egg! Stop overreacting!”
Sure! It is just Jadis blowing up the “Eagle & Child,” which just so happens to be the famous meeting place of the Inklings. It is the place where some of the most important conversations around Narnia were held and where the foundations were laid.
In a time where “subversion” is considered an artistic imperative, excuse me if I’m skeptical of this being anything BUT a purposeful symbol.
Love the idea of a true third place app. Like an app where you can go out in filters for what you’re looking for.
“Within 10 miles, $10 or less to be there, open til midnight” and the app just pops everything up or you.

Sometimes I really feel like an adult getting my stuff together.
Then I get a flat tire and remember the last time it happened and how I had to call my dad and then do it again 😂

I finished two books this week and that's more than I've finished in months. Its not just pure enjoyment. Its carving out time and prioritizing.
And this is fiction specifically. I enjoy reading. I have to remind myself that I do in this modern, crazy world though.
I'm about to dive into Eric Liddell's life because his quotes are stirring something in me that I haven't felt in a long time.

RIP Marcia Lucas, ex wife of George Lucas and Oscar Winner for her editing of Star Wars.
She let rip on the Disney Sequels and every single word was true. They never did call her.
as someone who has spent a lot of time looking at apartments recently, this could be a gamechanger. Some apartment complexes don't even have the walkthrough posted and just a layout listed. Companies that start doing this will likely overtake old school methods.
SOMEONE JUST KILLED THE REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY
A guy scanned an entire house with his phone. Uploaded it.
Now anyone on Earth can walk through it in a browser tab. No app. No VR. No agent. No appointment.
Click → you’re inside. Every room. Every angle. Every shadow. Photoreal.
The numbers are insane:
- Agent fee on a $500k home: $15,000
- Cost to make this scan: ~$200
- Time to “tour” 50 houses: one evening
- File size: smaller than a TikTok
The science is wild too:
It’s called 3D Gaussian Splatting instead of polygons (how games render), it uses millions of tiny glowing “splats” of color and depth.
AI reconstructs reality from your photos. The result loads on a phone and looks like you’re THERE.
The grift opportunity is even wilder:
Freelancers are already charging $300–$800 per scan for realtors, Airbnbs, venues, car dealers, museums.
One person + one phone + one weekend = a business.

Never stop saying "dozen" and "half dozen". Never stop using the word you read in an old novella. Never stop using your regional jargon. Don't succumb to an internationalized English stripped of its whimsy and romanticism in the name of streamlining global commerce.
There’s something to be said for planning and getting things figured out beforehand. There’s also something to be said for just diving in and doing the work and figuring it out.
You likely don’t even know your deficits and pain points until you’re DOING the work anyway.
Look, pointing at ONE thing and one thing only for this is foolish. That being said, if you had to combine all of the things going into this it could be summed up with "mismanagement". 🧵
Hear me: I love Star Wars. It has shaped my life in more ways that I can honestly count. So to see it so mishandled is disheartening. Filoni has the opportunity to do some AMAZING stuff with it. If given the freedom to do so, and he allows others freedom as well.
